  • Hack & Slash BRK Font

A couple of weeks ago I had some mild dental surgery. It involved some hacking and slashing on my gums. While I was recovering, I watched a lot of movies including the recent remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street . Yes, a classic slasher movie. So it was only appropriate that I found a font called Hack...

  • FontFont Free Fonts

The folks at FontShop recently converted 24 of their legacy font families (111 total fonts) into OpenType format. Yes, fonts get upgraded just like other software. Like any software upgrade, I'm sure a fair amount of work into it. Here's the odd thing about it, they're giving the fonts away...

  • Jagged BRK Font

With yesterday being Cinco de Mayo, it is just possible that there was a font designer somewhere who couldn't quite see straight. Now imagine if that designer sat down late last night and tried to create a font. It might just look something like Jagged BRK . Each of the characters in this font features...

  • Mad Marker Font

By the time I finish one of my books, I'm a little mad. No, not angry, the crazy kind of mad. As I was searching for today's font, it was only appropriate that I choose a mad font. Mad Marker is the font and it looks like it was created with a really thick marker. For those looking for a font...

  • Tara Bulbous Font

I remember the last time I was in Miami and I made sure to spend some extra time driving around looking at the Art Deco architecture. Today's font, Tara Bulbous , would fit in quite well in those neighborhoods. Each of the characters features a stark contrast between very thick and very thin. In...

  • Rope Font

Typically when April 15 rolls around in the United States, some of us feel like we are tied up in rope as our taxes are due. Due to an obscure local Washington DC holiday, we can delay our taxes until after the weekend. Given the rope them, I thought I would talk about the Rope font . Each of the characters...

  • Woodcut Font

I've always loved fonts that include detail inside each character. It isn't a font you are going to use for long blocks of text, but it can work great for a headline or a logo in the right situations. Today's font, Woodcut , has details inside each letter and gives an old-fashioned wild west...

  • Caslon Antique Font

One of my favorite fonts is Caslon Antique . It takes the popular Caslon font and distresses the edges to make it look old and worn out. You may remember it as the font used for the Les Miserables logo. Both the normal and the italic weight are included in today's font. Enjoy!

  • Acid Dreamer Font

Today's font is Acid Dreamer and I think I would categorize it as a grunge font. As you can see from the character sample at right, it has very rough edges. I immediately think of t-shirt designs where it could be useful, but I'm sure there are many other uses. Check it out and send me any samples...

  • Erin Go Bragh Font

I know I am probably a day late and a dollar short, but I thought I'd pick a St. Patrick's themed font. Erin Go Bragh font will bring back memories of green beer, corned beef and cabbage. I'm not sure if it is required or not, but maybe you should always set this font in green.

  • What Font is in Your Favorite Logos?

I don't know about you, but I love looking at designs and trying to figure out how they were made. Some of the best design is a logo because so much has to be conveyed in a simple design. Today I wanted to share a really interesting look at logos with you. You'll find some of the more popular...

  • Benighted Font

Each week as I tell you about a new font, I try to tell a story about why it was chosen. This week my search for a font began with no specific type of font in mind. As I looked around, I just liked the look of the Benighted font . Unfortunately I don't have a great story to go along with it. Download...

  • Blazed Font

I had a quick trip to Las Vegas last weekend to help surprise a friend on his birthday. It was Las Vegas, so I can't really tell you what happened. That's stay in Vegas. But I can tell you that the volcano in front of the Mirage hotel was upgraded a couple of years ago and the fire and water...

  • California Font

When I think of California, I definitely think of palm tree. I also think of a modern look with a few rough edges. The California font has all of those elements. I also love the example design shown on the font page. This font does have a fairly limited character set. There are only capital letters,...

  • Blox Font

I loved playing with Legos as a kid. OK, I still enjoy playing with them from time to time. That's what attracted me to today's font. Blox looks as if were built from stacking Legos to build each character. The characters also look to be in the isometric plane. Capital letters show each block...
