He was very direct and you never had to wonder how he felt about a topic, he simply told you. A trait I have always appreciated. He always showed an interest in helping others experience more out of life. He was always willing to share his gadgets and mastery.

He was a great person to work with and he will be sorely missed by Corel, and the people he helped.

Safe travels David,

T.

Farewell Paul McGee

I love working here.
This morning I got the latest report that shows the comments collected when customers use the "feedback" link, within the help file. The comments are constructive, informative and show a willingness to point out where our docmentation could be more clear. In addion, it's nice to see that about half the comments are positive, showing that people find the articles helpful.

Our documentation team is carefully studying all feedback and making changes to the help files to make things more clear in the future.

If you missed it, there are updated help files available online which incorporate some of the feedback already submitted. Gerard has more information posted here: http://coreldraw.com/blogs/gerard/archive/2010/11/30/coreldraw-graphics-suite-x5-help-available-online.aspx

I wanted to offer that we have fixed nearly 300 customer reported defects in the service pack, so I'm sure you will notice a difference.

With an application suite as big as CGS, I'm sure that there are a few issues that we didn't fix. If you still run into things that bother you, please post them in the newsgroups and we'll do our best to get them fixed up.

- As noted in the Forums yesterday (Feb 23rd) there was a hiccup on the English CNet download and the package would crash when it was being uncompressed...this was fixed last night. I just wanted to mention that this wasn't a problem with the installer but the build that was being downloaded from the website slipped a bit or two.

- CGS X5 needs .NET v.3.51 for many things. We include all the updates on the DVD version and the download version will download the right stuff and install automatically if you are connected to the internet

- Vista takes a while to install, mostly because of the .NET stuff listed above. Xp doesn't take long as Vista and Win7 goes the fastest

- The DVD based installs will show they require a lot of disk space because we install all the content by default. In previous versions we've never installed the content but from watching people in the field they always thought they got "everything" when they did an install. We recognize that the installer size will be quite different between X4 and X5 but we elected to install the content by default to meet customers expectations. Note that you can customize the install if you don't want the videos to be installed on the computer.

- If you're always connected to the internet you may want to deselect the videos from installing. The built in video browser is smart enough to go to youtube if you didn't install the videos.

- Ghostscript is not installed by default. It's a program that we can use to extend the felxibility of our EPS import if it's on the computer. If you import a EPS files a lot, consider selecting a custom install and selecting GLP Ghostscript.

- If you buy the download versions you can purchase the DVD and guidebook (either at time of purchase or later on).

HTH,

I'll be heading to the CorelDRAW Unleashed conference July 9-12 (http://www.coreldrawunleashed.com/conference/index.asp) and I've booked the 7&8th to visit customers in the Phoneix area. My goal would be to watch customers use CorelDRAW and/or PHOTO-PAINT as part of their daily workflow and see how it meets their needs. You don't need to have X4, and infact I see it as a bonus if you don't have it yet.

If you don't mind have a Corel guy watching over your shoulder please email me. I bring presents :>

Thanks for taking the time to read this,
Tony
