Coreldraw does it again.... Whilst importing a pdf document from a client, Coreldraw imported as text, with no messages reference font substitution, but then proceeded to delete characters. Whilst importing an 'f' followed by an 'i', it deletes the 'i'. Whilst importing an 'f' followed by another 'f' it deletes the second 'f'. But, whilst importing an 'f' followed by an 'o' no problem. ... go figure!
Coreldraw has on this occasion... again.. cost money when using it in a commercial environment. If they are serious about this product gaining market share from illustrator, then they need to invest some more time. I have had to purchase CS4 in order to deliver what Coreldraw is unable to do and should be able to do. Brand loyalty is beginning to wear thin.. please get your act together Coreldraw.
There are work arounds that can get the imported pdf file as it suppose to look.
Here's one you can try next time.
In Acrobat convert all text and stokes to outlines, save and import that file into Draw.
You can also save the entire document in EPS format and import those files.
Sometime I get frustrated but I always find a work around.

Paul, is this a situation where Draw doesn't support the ligature or ligatures are not available in the font management?
Sorry Paul, I do not understand what you mean. They were not 'ties' but were lowercase letters, exactly the same as the 'o' which went through OK.
a typographic ligature is a special singular glyph used mostly for the letter 'f'. for aesthetic compositional reasons special text blending is used to alleviate awkward spacing. typical ligatures are 'ff' and 'ft' though more combinations are used including an 'fo' glyph. it seems that the glyphs are missing from your system and thus the f substitution is being made.
Thanks for the explanation. Do you know how I can add them to my system?
I have heard this suggestion before "convert text to outlines" - it also solves the problem of missing fonts... BUT how do you convert to text to outline in Acrobat? I have Acrobat 8 professional.
It's a manual setting for transparency, I know WTF! But that's where it is. JUST BEWARE, many fonts are coded so that Acorbat CANNOT CONVERT to curves. Also you have to re-distill the PDF to get the font to convert to curves, if it will.
