I'm at version 12 so if this is in a later version tell me - it would be justification to upgrade.

Wanted - we receive PDF files from clients that require imposition like ganging business cards up.

Our Color copier has Fiery Imposition so if cards have no bleed its not a problem.

But if PDF has a bleed chances are the customer has a large bleed on it. In Corel Imposition with a Corel File we would not have a problem as Corel uses the PAGE Size and then lets one specify gutter desired, dropping off excess bleed midway between the cards.

In the Fiery Imposition one must download pdf with Fiery Downloader, then crop to a larger page size including the amount desired of bleed. A royal pain .

Well I am not about to buy yet another program for the few times it happens, but I would recommend Corel look at ways of handling pdf's that would work equally as well. Importing doesn't work as sometimes the file suffers changes. Converting PDF to a bitmap and then using Corels imposition also creates resolution issues, though the imposition then works flawlessly.

I was thinking in terms of a 2nd Import type like Adobe Indesign, leaving the PDF external if needed as can be done with bitmaps and possibly running the free or paid Adobe Reader from within CorelDraw to ensure the file processes as Adobe.

Assuming above is possible, as marketing ploy call CorelDraw graphics package a all in one tool box and stand alone package to enhance creativity of Adobe.

Benefits.

Type Manager

Additional Fonts

bitmap to vector generator

Bar Code Reader

Enhanced Imposition

and for those without either Photoshop or Illustrator, a similar product included at no extra charge.

As mentioned if PDF placement (where image, color, fonts-don't change) as I've mentioned is already possible in a later version of Corel then please tell me.

Thanks,

Ken

A Possible alternative if one has Adobe Acrobat Professional which allows saving as EPS file

Call this Beta testing, it may have some flaw to it.

With Client PDF open in Acrobat use File; Save AS; Encapsulated Postscript (EPS)

Make sure to include fonts, probably save as level 2 and include Image header.

Import and place and use Corel Imposition to output.

I highly recommend NOT USING CorelDRAW as your imposition tool for a customer supplied PDF workflow.  Many times the PDF will exhibit text or art flows.

If you use this option, you must import the EPS as "encapsulated postscriot", not as interpeted. But the conversion from PDF to EPS inside Acrobat or other software can change something, so is very dangerous to use this option

Too bad but that is why the request to have another import type for PDF's possibly processed by a Adobe product. I'ld much rather pay for an upgrade to Corel for this than buying and upgrading a program like Quite Imposing. In the mean time I guess its a matter of using Fiery Downloader and Fiery Imposition as it came with the Xerox 240 / EXP 250

Thanks

You are likely better off using Acrobat Pro which has zillons of extensions.

If you wanted a cheap solution to use only occasionally, and since you are using a copier and can afford to test print, you could try using GhostScript to prep the files first. It might be a bit hit and miss, you would only know by trying.

Hi Yani

Actually the RIP250 / Xerox 240 came with Acrobat 6, EFI Imposition, EFI Fiery Downloader but I just don't like the method of calculating oversize cards for the bleed versus the Corel Imposition. I'm told Quite Imposing, a Acrobat plug in uses a method like Corel Imposition so if I want to pay $400.00 for that I could but I would much rather use an upgrade to a product I know. In the mean time I will continue using the included EFI tools with the RIP.
