HI,

I've mangaed to make a simple GIF animation in X$ Paint and I am trying to get the transition between slides a bit fancier.

Instead on the sharp trasition, is it possible to get a fade (or similar transition) between slides

Thanks

Dave

not by default, but I think a macro could insert a frame between 2 existing ones, then paste and merge 50% opacity of the frames on either side of the new inserted frame. A crude one-frame cross-fade.

I suppose 3 frames could be inserted also, where the bullets are below:

Frame 30
  • Frame 30:67% | Frame 34:33%
  • Frame 30:50% | Frame 34:50%
  • Frame 30:33% | Frame 34:67%
Frame 31 (would become frame 34 after above 3 frames inserted)

that should look smoother.

Hi Jeff,

Thanks for the info on the macro.

I'm not up to speed on how they work or how you set them up, but I'll spend time over the weekend trying to fighure it out

Thanks again

Dave

Hi Dave,

Jeff mentioned that I should check out this thread.  If you'd like, I can write you a script or macro that can generate the transition frames.  However, animated GIF is a bit limited and, depending on the size of the animation, you might be better off going with Flash or another format.  If you're still interested in doing this in Photo-Paint, just let me know the details and what sort of transition you're trying to add.  If it's something simple, I'd be glad to walk you through creating a script.  Otherwise, I'm always up for writing a macro or two.

James

Hi James,

Thanks for the reply.

I want to transition 2 photos.

I am trying to fade in the first photo, have it show for around 4 secs, fade out and then fade in another photo, have it show for4 seconds and then fade to the first photo.

I'm not sure if you can do this with a GIF file. I can only manage a switch from one photo to the next. I've heard about FLASH. I it's not possible to do it in a GIF can you recommend FLASH software, Thanks

Dave

Sure it can be. I used to use Ulead GIF Animator years ago. It was really simple with that as it would come with so many preset effects

Peace I-)

Another software is Bannershop Gif Animator

I used this before and it is easy to use. It has a 15 day trial with no limitation in features.

Your welcome. I did this site 3 years ago http://www.eagletronicchargers.com/06site/home/index.html

I did the all the graphics in CorelDraw and the flash animation was the same software company but flash version instead of gif animation.

I'd almost forgotten about Ulead GIF Animator.  It's pretty handy... I frequently used it to optimize GIF animations... but that was several years ago.  It did come with a lot of built in effects.  Hmm... It might be worth checking to see if they have a demo.

As far as a Photo-Paint solution, I'm working on a macro that should do exactly what you want and a fair amount more.  I found some old scripts I wrote for PP9 and I'm updating them to work with PPX4.  If you need something in the next couple of days, let me know and I can post a simple script file.

James

HI James,

Thanks for that.

I'm in no hurry for the macro so when you can that would be great.

I tried to downlaod a demo of Ulead, however the page freezes when I try so I'll give it a go later on.

Thanks again

Dave

this free prog can do it i learned today. BUT I'd much rather work in Photo-paint... and look forward to James' scripts instead.

Hi Dave,

I've got the guts of a pretty nice script going here. Cool  I'll let you know when I have something ready.  If you decide you'd rather not wait, I put together stripped down CSC script that will probably do what you want for your animation.  Here's a link:

http://www.antipoetics.com/photo-paint/tools/moviefaderx4.zip

The script will prompt for the number of transitional frames and whether or not the movie should loop.  From there, it will process all of the frames in your video.  To run the script, extract the CSC file to a folder where you'll be able to find it again.  Open Photo-Paint and load your animation.  Then, drag and drop the script on to Photo-Paint's window OR go to the Tools menu, choose Run Corel Script and then browse to the location of the CSC file.

Let me know if you have any problems with this and I'll try to fix any bugs you might run into.

Hi James,

nice call on allowing variable intermediate frames! :-)

I played with it 2 nite in PP X3 actually, works fine. I suspect you're adding some other things, but here are some ideas:

  1. Ability to insert transition between a range. So if user wants transition between frame 20 and 21 only.
  2. ability to control FPS of inserted transition frames. This allows long times for static frames but quick but smooth transitions between.

here is example where I tried the script, but lengthened "main" frames.

FWIW I built main animation in Draw using print merge and a LCD font, then exported pages to single files.

LOL, we need that movie builder script real bad..... Alex has some code that almost works, arghhh Crashes here after 1st frame .

Hi Jeff,

The bigger version that I'm working on is quite different and, yes, it will allow applying over a range of frames.  The ability to set the timing for the frame delay was the second thing I wanted to add after inserting the new frames.  Here's a sample GIF I just created:

Should I write a functional clone of Alex's movie builder? Big Smile
