Hi all... new to this forum and to Corel...

We have just brought Corel 10 and also a Graphtec plotter.  We are trying to cut an image through Corel draw onto the plotter, but not really sure how to go about it...

We have managed to get the plug-in to work for the plotter, but not really sure how to go about tidying up the image etc and putting in plot points (might be called nodes)??

I think we have worked out how to trace it, but not sure how to cut it from there?  Do we go ahead and save the trace in Corel trace and then re-open it in Corel draw?  Or are we doing the wrong thing entirely?

Basically we want to open an image - probably a jpeg, muck around with it a bit, tidy up the picture, delete a few lines, add a few bits in, then to be able to cut it on a plotter.

If anyone can help, we would be so appreciative!

Thanks v. much

Andrea

What you need for cut directly from CorelDRAW to a Graphtec is to install the plotter drivers (such as any printer), sometimes you must change the HPGL language to GP-GL on the plotter panel, and send the object as "Black" and "hairline" outline, without fill

Andrea-

You have to convert the bitmap (jpg) image to a vector graphic.  To do this, you will open the jpg file in CorelTrace and save it- then import the traced file into Coreldraw.  Then you will print the file to your plotter- assuming you have set it up properly.

Andrea, my suggestion, since this process is all new to you, would be to start with vector images.

Understanding how to prepare vectors for cutting is a learning experience all in itself.

No sense in complicating issues with trying to convert jpgs too.

Get yourself comfortable with vector images. Learn the basics of node editing/manipulation. Make sure you have things like trim/weld/combine under your belt. Understand how contours work.

After that,  you can start to tackle jpgs. Converting them, cleaning them up, getting them prepared for the cutter.

...............just my 2¢

Thanks everyone for your help... I am now getting to grips with it.  My problem now is that the plotter which holds 24inch vinyl, is not big enough to cut the vinyl that we want... and I am unsure how to make it so that it cuts the vinyl in 2 pieces.  Can anyone help with this?  I understand it is something to do with tiling.

Also... in Corel 10, when we trace an image, unless I use less than 70 accuracy, it won't then convert back into Corel draw without a great level of difficulty - the whole programme keeps crashing when I try and weld it and arrange it etc.  Is this because it's an old version of Corel?  Or is it because it's a very detailed graphic that i'm trying to trace.

Thanks for your help.
