I have come across a problem several times. When passing a file created in one version of CorelDRAW to another user of an earlier or later version of CorelDRAW sometimes the colours change and it is not obvious why this happens.

I use X4 and lierally today I sent an image where the font was Blue. When opened by the other user using version X3 the blue font had changed to a purple colour.

This doesn't happen all the time but it has happened to me before with other earlier versions of CorelDRAW.

Has anyone else had the same experience?

Is it a bug or have I got a setting wrong?

Any ideas or advice ?

Rese,

This is definitely not a bug. The color management settings on the two versions/computers are different. It is hard to tell you which one is more "accurate" without knowing how you plan to use these files. I'm definitely biased, but I think my CorelDRAW X4 Unleashed book would be a great resource of CorelDRAW knowledge for you. That includes the topic of color management and using the correct colors for the job at hand.

My bet is the color management settings being different in X4 then they were in X3.

Simple: you are using different color profiles on both programs. The RGB Blue looks like blue if you use RGB profile, but changes to purple if you use a CMYK color profile. You must use the same settings on both versions

Thank you to everyone that has taken the time to put forward suggestions and explanations.

Although it is possible that the other user's default colour setup may be different then mine I would of hoped that the file's attributes would  remain with it.

If for some reason CorelDRAW is unable to do this then at least give a warning as it does when unable to find a font of an imported file/

Best regards to all

Rese,

The attributes do stay with the file. Color management settings are not
"file attributes". Whether you like it or not, this is a subject you need to
learn more about so problems like this don't come up in the future.

CorelDRAW files work on what is called an assumed color space work flow.  To view a CorelDRAW file exactly as intended one mustmatch the original files color management settings.  Corel doe not embed color profiles in a Draw file.
