    Ventura 8 on Vista

OK, I've seen all the posts on version 10 -- yes, it will run on Vista, kinda.

Now, what about v. 8? Anybody tried that yet? Also, anybody tried Ventura (any version) in a virtual machine (vmware, etc.)?

I was hoping an upgrade to v. 10 would help me with Vista, but I'm doubting it will be worth my while.

re: Virtual Machine... sure, I'm running Ventura 10 on a Macbook using Parallels (www.parallels.com). It runs absolutely flawlessly. Allan

I have no definitive info on V8 and Vista to offer. (Sorry.)

However, perhaps this will help. First, let me correct a misimpression you
appear to have: V10 runs fine on Vista. The only issue that has been reported is
that you must set the compatibility for the installation executable (SETUP.EXE)
to Win2K/XP in order to install the program.

If you have Vista and V8, I suspect the same problem will occur with *both*
installation and the program executable (VENTURA .EXE). The compatibility for
both should be set to Win2K.

And that's a one time fix that is very simple.

John Neufeld just posted this on the V8 newsgroups:
    --------------------------------
I didn't hear from anyone, but finally was able to get VP8 to run in Vista.
In case it helps anyone else: Here's what finally worked:

Copy the entire installation CD to the hard disk. Set Vsetup.exe to run in
Windows 2000 compatibility mode. Run VP8 updates without compatibility mode.

After doing this, whenever I tried to run Ventura.exe, I would get the
windows message, "Ventura has closed unexpectedly." Here is what fixed this
problem: I turned compatibility mode for Ventura.exe OFF. It apparently
inherited the compatibility mode from the installation. I don't know why
running in compatibility mode would cause it to crash, but there it is.

In short: my experience is that the installation must be copied to the hard
disk and run in compatibility mode. Ventura itself should NOT be run in
    compatibility mode.
