We have to remember that Votes here on the site only count as One part of the judging. Dunno how the star ratings will work.
5 stars is excellent but if one person alone voted for a file and gave that file 5 stars....Maybe Gerard can explain to us better.

I won't explain how the "most popular" algorithm works for two reasons: I don't know all the details myself (that's the best reason) and getting details on how it really works would enable people to easily trick the system ;-)

The total vote is a quotient. If you worry about that people with one rating/5stars can win at the end, then you have the chance to go through the whole galleries and give an Average(3 Stars) for those who were not been voted yet. Every second vote can't result in more than 4 Stars. If you even want to avoid that they get an Average, give them a Poor(one star). IMHO if there are people who need to do that, go and have fun, there's much work waiting. I have the suspicion anyway, that there are many people who are not interessted in voting, but rather in pulling down or pushing up - no matter which and whose taste it suits.
It's a liberal but merciless voting, no matter how you look at it. That' are my thoughts.

Ahmad Ajlouny:The scenario I imagined, on 6/7 in the last 10 minutes before the deadline, an unrated entry got a vote of 5 stars. If the count of votes has no effect on the result, this almost unrated entry will win this stage of the contest.
this is not logical. If an entry has only one vote with 5 stars, and other job has three votes, with 2, 3 and 4 stars, the rate of the first is 5 and the second is 3, but the first has only 5 stars and the second has 9 stars.
and about to be on the first page, this is not any advantadge, as you can see. The most rated post are not in the first page. My favorites are:

Sorry mo, you talk too much about me; my worries, what chances I have, what can and can't do, what to avoid and what is waiting for me... a member posted some notes about showcasing and rating the contest entries with a title "Any comments about the contest".

In my scenario, I did not throw anybody in the suspicion of cheating; please read what you have quoted, I said an entry can be voted at the last 10 minutes. Note that the entry is there to be voted, could be by a member that even does not know the creator of the entry.
mo:I have the suspicion anyway, that there are many people who...
Yes mo, I can be easily tempted to suspect any and everyone, but I know I don't have the right to accuse anyone of my imaginary suspicions, “It is more shameful to mistrust one's friends than to be deceived by them”. *

Thank you for your support, Ariel. That's how the current "Most Popular" works; average 5 beats the total 9 in your example.
mo,
I appologize for misunderstanding your post. I was suspicious more than you were; I'm the one who should read the quotes I posted :p
Thank you so much. Enjoy the first place :)
You don't have to, it was my false expression.
One last note beside. I assume cheating in the voting, but I suspect noone in person. There is even a bigger difference for me to have a suspicion, and to accuse some/any special users. I never dare to accuse s.o. without evidence, especially not my friends.
But enough now, it's not the theme here.
You are right, the displayed stars are not logial, at least not transparent. This quotient is not logical in a time-limited voting as long as everyone starts with nothing. Hypothesize that every user votes for every picture (then only the summary of stars at the end counts) or every picture is voted with only 5 Stars (then the summary of votes counts), then it would be a transparent quotient. But in the actual voting you have two variables in one equation. That makes it harder to cheat I think, but it makes it more invisible too. And that's not good for competition.

Yes, this system is not clear. The best one, I suppose, is allow to each member of the Forum can vote or not for each drawing. Of course, for prevent "fake" users (for example, some people can suscribe as hundreds of different names only for vote himself) you can require a certain time as member for voting (ie more than 3 months as member).
Actually seems that you can vote as "bad", "good, or "very good", according with the amount of stars. So, if half people vote a job with one star, is voting as a "bad job", and if you have a rate of 3 stars, but half is 5 stars and half is only one, this job is not good since half people vote against this job. If other jobs has less votes but all for 3 and 4 stars, this can be the winner, since all the people vote as "good" or "very good", and nobody votes as "bad". If so, if you vote with one star a job, you are voting as "bad" and can be interpreted as a negative vote or against this job
