Take a look at your "channel light" on the box (assuming the channel light reflects activity on the DVD device). I had a similar problem which apparently was a quite flakey DVD drive. The mass transfer of all the "EXTRAs" to the hard drive causes an unusual amount of head seeking on the DVD drive. I have found LG drives to be particularly unreliable (several years--one in particular, brand new, in ancient history (CD days) left a CD hot enough to burn my hand when I removed it, and this flakey drive was also an LG.

So try this: when it hangs, manually eject the DVD (!), wait ten seconds and reload it normally. In my case it resumed normal operation from where it left off.

Of course, the abominable (lack of) error detection throughout the PC architecture and software is a major contributor to problems like those.

BTW after replacing the LG drive with a much cheaper Lite-on drive, no more problems.

If all else fails, manually copy the extras, one directory at a time, to the hard drive. There is nothing special about the "extras," they are just a few thousand files like any other file.

Just to clarify, you did purchase a boxed version of CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X4, did you? If that's the case, there might be a problem with your media and I would recommend you contact the Corel customer service to see if they can exchange your disk.

The extras are no available legally as a download as far as I know Cool

Hello Laureen,

If you are having problems installing the Extras, there might be a problem with the DVD that was included in the box. One thing you can try is to copy all the files from the Extras folder on the DVD to your hard drive and see if that works (it's what the Extras installer actually does). Alternatively, I would recommend you contact the Corel customer service for a replacement media.
