Hello all, I don't know if I am in a right place.   :)  I have Corel Photo Album 7 for photo editing.

My problem is I  often can not open a photo from the mail attachment, or from my Pictures folder.  I can  from within a program though.  Corel is my default photo editor.  What  happens is: when I click on the photo to open  it  minimizes  it down to my taskbar  (at the bottom)  instead and then I  have to click on this minimized "Corel" icon to actually open a  photo.  It is truly annoying.

I could not get any help from Corel people at all.  Their  technical help is almost non-existent. :(

Can you please  help me on this forum?

Try right mouse clicking on the filename, choose Open with, and then choose a different Photo viewer... like Windows Picture and Fax Viewer... if it does the same thing as Corel, it's probably a Windows issue more than a Corel Program issue.

Then after that there's lots of stuff to try... like a cold boot might work... who knows... maybe somebody that's had this exact problem before.

Hi   Smile   Thank you so much for responding to me.   I did what you suggested, .. and no luck...  I used Windows  Photo Gallery.   All the photos opened  normally, in a big window, right away (I tried about 8 of them).  Now  I  strongly believe it's Corel's  problem.

When I had an old version (Photo Album 6)  I could get some "live" person  to talk to.   When he asked me  to do  the same thing as you suggested and it did the same thing,  it got clear to me that it was Corel's fault.  He went "Hmmm.."   and said that they no longer supported an older version. So I  purchased this Corel Photo Album 7 and looks like I have exactly the same  problem. It is working in general, but this is not right that a photo minimizes instead of opening up.

Do you know any tech. support  phone number?      May be I should try  to  e-mail them again, but I was very annoyed when I did it the first  time. I NEVER received any help from them, never. :(

Hi Laura,

my only advice is to NEVER, EVER open any file directly from your email client. No matter where or who it's from. Do NOT ever trust the provenance no matter who you think it came from. Please always save the file to a physical drive, virus check it and then, when you're content that it's safe, open your editing/viewing application and then open the file. It sounds overly protective, but it'll be your friend one day. Making the association within the OS is all well and fine for convenience, but ultimately you just might be happy one day to take the long way round and not pick up a virus. It'll take you all of a few seconds extra to do it. So it's always SOS... Save File > Open Application > Seek File

Sorry to sound a bit of a misery, but I assure you that getting rid of a virus, although fun, is VERY time consuming

Hi Mosh,   do you suggest that I can talk to a  REAL  "live" person?  If so, I could not yet find an option  to do it. ... And also -  is it free of charge or not ???

BTW -  I am still hoping they will respond in 24-48 hours after I re-submitted my question,  but I  am not  that optimistic.

Thank you Mosh.  :)

Hi Paul,    what you advice  does sound  very reasonable!     Yeah, it's a longer way to look  at it, and if   we don't like it have to delete off my hard drive. LOL

Generally  my anti-virus  is checking my Outlook Express for virus.  I  have never worried about it  so far.  LOL

Thanks again Paul.  :)

Just me being careful I guess :o) it's served me well for a long time. Though I got caught once by an IT 'expert'. Not their fault of course, just an oversight. It took us three days to get everything clear. Gosh, it's hard to believe that it was three years ago now. The infection spread through a network of over 100 computers. A fun few days :o)

Cute avatar BTW... A Border Collie?

Hi everyone, I got a response from Corel's tech. support.    They suggest to completely uninstall and reinstall the software using their instructions.

I intend to do so  in the next 5 minutes.  I will  let you all  know if it worked out  or not.

Thank  you for your readiness to help me. I appreciate it.

Laura.

I hear you Paul  about 100 computers.  Oh My Goodness!  LOL

Thank you Paul, ...  it's  actually  a 4.5 years old  sheltie (Shetland Sheepdog). Her  name is Cassie.  I may  find   a better pic of her and post for my avatar. :)

OK, I tried  to  follow  Corel's instructions  to uninstall and reinstall Corel  and frankly  it was very confusing to me.   I removed  most of the Corel files but not sure if all of them.   After that I installed again.

It's too early to say  whether it works or not.  I will let you know.

use Google Translate... just copy (select text, then Control-C); then Paste (Ctrl-V) into the Google text box for translation (Choose from Spanish to English)

Hi Paul,    I installed  Corels' Photo Album 7   but it did not solve the problem: still some photos  don't open in  the album automatically...

The Corel's tech. support e-mailed me saying they were aware of this problem...  however it's been  quite awhile  and a problem is not fixed yet.
