Hi
I just got a brand new box of X4
I'm hoping someone can help figure out why my CDGSX4 launcher (autorun.exe) is missing it's text descriptions?
I mostly figured out what was what via trial & error but I know I'm missing information in these dialogs & since I can't see it I don't know if it would be helpful or not.
It's the same on both my laptop running XP & also on my desktop running Vista.
Screenshot included...
thanks
Andrew
Well I had hoped to hear something about resolving this.
I guess folks just don't know, I asked in the CDGSX4 newsgroup & got no response there either.
While I guess it's not crucial, it isn't much of a 'welcome' to get when you pop the DVD in the drive (and it does seen kind of lame).
Oh well.
I suggest that you run the downloadable installer. Your installation files may be corrupted someway.

Thanks for the suggestion.
In this case I did not run the download installer, I specifically waited for my X4 box (dvd) to arrive.
You know, I re-read your post.
I have heard of conflicts between the downloaded version and the box version due to authentication or something like that, so that's why I avoided using the download installer.
But my box just came directly from Corel.. The installers work, the extras are accessible, it's just the descriptions are missing on the autorun welcome screen. Do you still think it's a corruption issue?
Thanks for responding
It never hurts to try.
I've had an issue where the Disc from the boxed version wasn't installing properly... I have to run the downloaded version to get progress.
Try it and tell me what happens.
Boxes are shipping already? ..cool, early.

Sure Boxes of X4. I just bought it.. in fact Corel announced X5 before my box of X4 even arrived at my door lol

I think it's not available any more now that X5 is released. Thanks for the idea though.
It's not a crucial issue. It just appears that for whatever reason only the icons and mouseover images are displayed, all text is missing.
I found that 1st button = Install programs, 2nd=modify/repair, 3rd=extras, 4th=a screen saver. Also I think there was a way to view video tutorials, but the descriptions all went blank. Luckily they all are named with descriptive names, so I can see what is what just by looking at them. Oh, and the button bottom left opens the DVD in folders view, and the right bottom = exit :)
I do have to say though, if it was my product doing this I would be a little embarrassed.

We were talking about the X4 box. X5 Boxes will be shipped later in the month. :)
Andrew, have you contacted Corel Support with this issue?
I have been going around in circles at the corel.com website trying to contact them.
First a live-chat .. I filled in the fields & clicked to continue but got a message saying basically, the live chat is usually available...blah blah..
Logged in, got to a page about "my questions" and "answers", but it didn't have a way to post a new one...
Then a form to email them... filled it in, including serial #, & submitted (still logged in).. it directed me back to that "my questions" page, which doesn't show my new question...
I don't know. I hope it worked & I get a reply lol
Well, multiple contact attempts have failed.
I tried the live chat, but never actually got a chat window, just redirected to the self-help support pages.
I logged in & submitted an email/form last night, when I submitted it I got redirected to a page showing a summary of my questions, but it doesn't show my new question.
I logged in again this morning & submitted another email / form, got redirected to the same questions page & still, the new question isn't there. No response or confirmation from Corel via email either.
If I wanted to contact "customer service" how would I do that? The only Customer Service link I can find takes me to the self-help support pages.
Thanks
Hi Andrew,
I'll point someone from Corel to this post to see if they can help you regarding this problem.
I did see something like that during the development of X5 related to Win7 Aero, but don't recall seeing this on X4. The version I saw was related not having the latest version of the video drivers on my computer. One simple way around is to access the content of the DVD through Windows Explorer or to click on one of the two buttons at the bottom of the auto-run.
Regarding getting the X4 box the day X5 was announced, you might be able to get a special deal from the Corel Customer Service (you will need a proof of purchase)... try contacting them per email.

Thanks all the assistance and the suggestion that I talk to customer service.
I was able to contact Corel when I went back & tried again using IE.
Didn't solve the missing text but that's okay.
Regarding my late adoption of X4, I was given an offer regarding an upgrade to X5 that I thought was more than fair.
Nice to see Corel participates here, that's pretty unusual these days.
