lasso tool help

I am trying to use the Lasso Tool and I set the Talerance  15   25   55  and it does not grab the  photo of my head.

 

I took a JPG  photo of my Head and in photopaint O made the background color all Black so just my head is in the Forground.

 

Then I saved it as  BMP to the desktop.

Now I open it back up in photopaint and try to use the Lasso Tool to grab just my head and I thought it would be easy because I made the background color Black  behind my head.

So I set the Talerance level to 25 and go around it with the Tool and wen I am doen it never grabs my head.

It grabs  a lot of background black with it.

 

Please help please I need to do this
