HELP! I have had Corel X4 installed for about 3 months then all of a sudden it has stopped working.
Everytime I try to start the app it comes up with "Product Installation Unsuccessful Please Reinstall Error 24" and closes. We have this installed on quite a number of computers with different legit keys on each.
I have tried repairing the installation through add/Remove programs with no success, one one computer tried uninstalling then reinstalling but when installing it comes up with "Invalid Key" when trying to reinstall, which is weird because it worked before and is legit. All computers running Windows XP and had CorelX4 SP1 installed. Have tried installing the Hotfix1 (no sucess).
Have looked through the forums here and can't really see anything that will help. Would really appreciate some info, cheers.
Hello all,
On behalf of the entire CorelDRAW team, I am very sorry for the inconvenience some users have experienced as a result of this error message and have been victims of software pirates. I have just posted a detailed entry in my blog that provides the details behind what is happening and also provides those affected with an option to get the problem resolved. You can get the details at following address:

Ah....Hollerith cards, haven't seen those since the '60's. I remember the days in front of an IBM 026 and later, an IBM 029 (card punch machines)....

You're younger than you look Jeff I can remember sitting at punch card machines doing those. An the printouts..... you needed a wheelbarrow.
All very interesting I'm sure but off topic!
wache:You want to tell me that all bunch of people here on this forum have illegal copies!!!???
It appears to be true...
wache: You should be on edge of closing if you sell every fifth cd/dvd legally and all the rest illegal...
Welcome to the thrilling, chilling world of software sales.
Let's consider Adobe for a moment. We think "Photoshop...Flash.. Illustrator.. indesign... after effects... premiere... dreamweaver".
Add them all up, and you only have half of where Adobe really makes their money.
How many 18-25 year old designers will cheerfully fork over 1,500.00 - 2,000.00 USD for Adobe stuff? I propose... nearly none. Because, that age group often has a McJob and is trying to figure out how to pay for tires and insurance for their car, or for their cell phone and clothing bills. So, they find or become a nerd from the Dark Side who finds a way to get something for nothing. 3 month's rent is big chunk of cash for a young person...

Oh, I am sorry. Are you one of the people affected by the X4 drop-dead of the first of June?
FYI: Gerard, in an update to his blog, is asking you to look at his blog, as he will be posting another update, tonight. I suspect that Corel may bend over backwards to help out those who unknowingly bought pirated software. I mean after all, it seems that everything came to a halt, at Corel, and just about everyone, there, jumped on this problem and they are working on it.
If nothing else comes out of this problem, at least many people will no longer trust "Deals of the century" on software products, without knowing the seller.....

I learned my lesson. I got scammed for $50, but I should have known better. I'm really much smarter than my foolish impulse would suggest.
Now that I look closer, I'm guessing that the genuine Corel DVDs do not have that distinctive blue-gray tint on the data surface. Obvously I wouldn't have known THIS small detail by looking at an eBay listing, but it's pretty obvious now that all these problems have come to light. ~It's clearly a writeable DVD!!!
My greed got in the way of common sense.

No, I'm fine, but there may be people trawling groups like this trying to find answers, I know I've done it in the past and it's annoying when you get noise on the RT!
Well I thought I was buying a second hand version. The DVD certainly looks used, it came with a full colour handbook, and there is something that looks similar to a sort of hologram around the centre hole of the DVD saying "CORELDRAWRGRAPHICSISUITEIX4 D9-D9-A" , but Gerard has told me it is pirated.Although it was from eBay, it wasn't that cheap for second hand.
Telling some friends about it, I have already had a few offer me cracked versions of Adobe, which I refused because I would rather have a clean conscious. Please keep in mind that some of us don't want to sit on the wagon and have been scammed. In my case, I don't know how one could tell that my copy was pirated.
Jeff Harrison:It would not surprise me if only 1 out of 5 CorelDRAW installs actively used today was paid for under legal circumstances.
You can get the exact numbers for various countries on the web. The averaged score for legal is 50% in the US falling to below 20% in some Asian countries. Given that you have governments and big corporations included in those figures it could well be that home use even well below 20% legit in some countries.
Anyway I not out to become a preacher for the BSA. There are definitely cases where piracy leads to purchases and it is part of underground software promotion.
MS wouldn't have had such market share with Windows if the early versions didn't have next to zero copy protection. MS effectively used a lack of copy protection to gain market share at a time when every network vendor require a serial for each and every network node.
I'm sure Corel have benefited from piracy as promotion. If you can't change the environment then you need to make it work for you. Seems some have had a pretty good run out of 'cheap' software and now have a chance to go legit at a discount. Not really a great idea to complain too loudly in a forum where most people have paid the full price or paid for updates for years.
