With long documents there are usually several sections/chapters, and only Ventura can keep these chapters in a single publication. The chapters control which side of the page they start on and numbering for pages and chapters. Chapters can be reordered by dragging them into place, and chapters can be copied from publication to publication. To go to a specific chapter double click on it's name in the Navigator Window.

Page numbering is usually automatic, but you control any changes in numbering. You can set a specific page number or have it increment from the previous page. You can completely override a page with different properties than those in the page tag (master page), or can easily reapply the true tag attributes with a double click.

Each and every paragraph can have an override, and the Paragraph Properties dialog box gives you an indication of which attributes were changed from the original tag settings. This also applies to frames and other elements that have tags.

Ventura can EXPORT embedded graphics into any format. As far as I know, no other program can do this. This means that if you don't have the original of the photo or graphic and need to modify it outside Ventura you can easily do it.

I should know this program well. I've been using it for 20 years and teaching/consulting on it for just under that.

Carol Lovelady wrote the following post at 05-18-2007 11:26: Ventura users can create caption frames which are attached...

To say nothing of the fact that the text of  a caption can be automatically inserted into the text elsewhere (for example "Figure 2 Widgits after assembly."  can be quoted (and updated automatically in the 15th revision when Figure 2 becomes "Figure 4 "Widgits on board after  assembly")

I have used that quoting a caption facility within the main text in items ranging from a 300 page (published) book to a 2 page business proposal, and many items in between (8 to 80 page brochures, proposals, reports etc.)

And Chapter conditions. Gee it's been at least two days since I used those (great for items function as variously, Reports to Shareholders, Confidential information for  Suppliers and Confidential Information for Engineering/Manufacturing etc., all with common elements and with some elements that are not to be seen under any conditions by some of those parties.

The only time for any kind of mostly text document, and more than a few 1 page illustrations that I use any other program is when the need for Unicode cannot be avoided (in particular Korean--which theoretically could be reduced to a Korean character set as it is actually an alphabet with only 23 characters in current use; just have not figured out how to do it, and how to get Korean text out of Word into Ventura with a modified font. Sure wish Ventura would speak unicode and keep me from  tearing my hair out trying to use Word and its nightmare constructs, mysteriously chaning changing headers, etc.

O - did I hear anyone mention automated page headers and footers reflecting what any given page (or ones ahead of it) may have as a heading? And different items in left and right pages. And multiple indexes and multiple TOCs and...

Hello, at some time it happened me that was needed to send some you paginate to color of HAPPINESS to CorelDRAW, simply brilliant, because to the power open files PDF from CorelDRAW, the task is simple, being conserved the kerning, with the exception that is to care and not to play in CorelDRAW —text contents—, because as CorelDRAW it is known he/she doesn't have that characteristic that confers to the text legibility and good aspect, the images, vectors and texts arrive very well.

Because Happiness nowadays is not popular .es to say exclusive, ja ja. when one needs to send to external .wao!. the format PDF is used, and if they need but facilities are sent in a CDR that has been created starting from PDF, but, from HAPPINESS directly the same as CorelDRAW the imposition is quite simple, especially when it is about preparing badges of great size.

Greetings to all, Fernando.

Another nice feature is the ability to have variable replacements for text. For example, I work on several manuals that have to be updated each year and the last/current/next years have to be updated each time. I do this automatically by changing the definition for each of these variable once within the publication and all references are automatically updated. It saves me a lot of time.

Carol Lovelady The Ventura Lady loveladyconsulting.com and venturalady.com
I use replacement variables constantly. For example, in our user documents, the name of the product in title page and footers is a variable. So is the pub date. In sales proposals and license agreements, the client's name, address, pub date, dropdead date and a dozen other items are variables. Our software license often includes two or three agreements. I have all the standard agreements as separate chapters in one pub file. I enter the variables once, delete the chapters I don't need and save under a new name. Then, all I have to do is key in the specific products, services and pricing. As a result, I can do a standard license (more than a dozen pages) in under 15 minutes, with minimal proofing.

CDR 11 files can be directly loaded into Ventura. This is my typical workflow.

You can use most OT fonts, you just won't get all the extra features of them. Most all of the fonts I use regularly are OT.

Fernando.

Ventura is the only application I know of under $1,000 U.S. to handle documents in excess of 1,000 pages without a plug-in.

Ventura does not have that God Awful, MAC,  Adobe or Quark interface.

Greetings,

So how come Corel does not bundle this in the Suite?? Seems like a no brainer.

I would guess that the support problems that would arise from wide spread use of Ventura with X3 would cost them a bundle.
