Hi there, I saved a file an hour ago and then I closed the file as I had to do something else, I'm trying to open the same file that I worked on but it is giving me this error message and I've tried Retry and Ignore and nothing opens up. Corel just shuts down.

I'm working on X5

Please can someone explain why this happens and how can I stop it from happening or how can this be fixed.  As now I have to redo my whole project again.

Try importing the file in a blank document and see if it helps.

If this doesn't work, then make a copy of your file via windows explorer. Rename the file extension from .cdr to .zip. Extract the contents of the Zip file. You will get some files and folder extracted. Under the folder called content, you'll see a file called riffdata.cdr. Try to open or import this file. Hope this helps.

I tried importing the file in a blank doc and that didn't work, then I don't have Winzip on my computer so i cannot do the other option, is there another way of trying?

Normally the special characters are not allowed in a file name. If you have any, that should be removed. You can try renaming the file from Windows explorer and then opening it or importing it back in DRAW. BTW if you have WinXP or later, you can still view the contents of most of the ZIP file.

I don't have Winzip

That should not be a problem as long as you have XP or newer. Rename the CDR to zip and double click on it. It will open as a "compressed folder".

From there, drag the internal CDR file to another folder or the desktop which will give you an unzipped copy of the internal CDR file to try on its own.

okay  maybe I'm being silly but does it take long to reopen? as my file has be trying to open for the past 30mins now

No, it should not take significantly longer than "normally" opening the file. If it does then it is probably irretrievably broken.
