When using styles for text, I'm finding that paragraph text styles do not update themselves when a change has been made. For instance, if set my initial paragraph font style to Century Oldstyle and apply it to several paragraphs, those paragraphs are somehow not affected if I change the font style to Garamond. It seems as though I must re-apply the styles to every paragraph. This seems to defeat the purpose of having styles -- am I missing something?

As a sidenote, the graphic styles don't have this problem. If I create a graphic style for a purple object and later change it to red, every object that style is applied to updates itself to reflect the change.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Addison

Sorry for the bump, but I'd really like to hear if anyone can offer help for this. I use CorelDRAW for comping up web sites, so use styles for my text headers and lists and such. If I need to change all of my h1 headers from red to green, it sure would be nice to do it with the styles instead of manually changing each one on every page...

Thanks,
Addison

Addison,

Sadly styles are in bad need of an update. They just don't work well.

I see -- well, maybe X4 will have a fix. Thanks.

Addison,

I would try to find another way to solve the problem besides using styles.

But isn't that the intended use of styles? The object styles works just fine -- I wish the same applied to text. Part of my problem may be that I use CorelDRAW as more of a layout tool rather than an illustration tool...

Do you have any suggestions?

Thanks,
Addison

Addison,

Yes, you are using styles the way you are supposed to use styles. They just have been broken for a long time now and I wouldn't cross your fingers hoping they are fixed in the next version.

I wish I had a good suggestion for you. Maybe the Find and Replace Wizard could help in some ways. Unfortunately it won't work if you have longer blocks of text.

This is one of the reason I will continue to use Corel Ventura for page layout projects. The styles in Ventura are second to none.
