  1. PLEASE
  2. GIVE US
  3. NUMBERED LISTS

I've requested this for the last three versions, still no joy.  I spend most of my days using CorelDRAW to write illustrated instructions, it sure would save me some time and make my work look a lot neater.

Patti

I agree with you.

Facing pages should be purely a VIEW option, ie a simple button on the toolbar that can be turned on and off at will, not something that changes the document structure or has to be decided when the document is first created:

The basic rules:

  • When editing a document the user should be completely free to switch back and forward from single to facing pages view
  • All objects should be displayed in their correct position on the page, regardless of whether facing view is on or off

When in single page view:

  • objects that span a pair of pages should be displayed on both pages, but only the part within the page bleed area should be shown
  • page up / page down should move by one page at a time
  • page sorter view should show thumbnails for single pages
  • page borders and guidelines should be correct for a single page
  • odd pages include right master pages in their correct position
  • even pages include left master pages in their correct position

When in facing page view:

  • page up / page down should move by two pages at a time
  • page sorter view should show thumbnails for pairs of pages
  • page borders and guidelines should be correct for a pair of pages
  • when the document has an even number of pages, the last and first pages are displayed as a facing pair
  • master pages included same as above

Page sorter view also has the button to toggle the facing pages view.

  • moving/inserting an odd number of pages may require a range of thumbnails to be rebuilt to show new left or right master pages, though for performance reasons it might not be appropriate to do this on every move.

And to go with the above ... a show bleed selector:

This has three states:

  • default (show everything, as at present)
  • crop at bleed border -- objects extending outside the defined bleed area are shown as if they were in a powerclip rectangle the size of the bleed area (like they would print). Cropmarks could usefully be displayed in this view too.
  • crop at page edge -- same as above but crop at the page edge and no cropmarks added.

Like the facing pages button, it is purely a view feature for convenience during design and does not change the document structure or the way it prints.

In addition to great suggestions by harryLondon , I think Page sorter view should also become a Docker to keep it open while working on a page.

Harry, your suggestion is great, it is necessary for page layout. But we are lucky at least X6 provides Facing Page command as icon/button.

Yes, it should be a docker and page sroter view should be show facing pages as in document as facing.

More than this, I believe tat Corel must merge the Page sorter view with the Object Manager. A docker that allows reorder pages, copy, delete, etc, and edit layer inside each one or inside Master Pages

That's a perfect idea from Harry and Ariel too!

Also a creation of "Spread sheets" will be very helpful, especially to those who design booklets or Magazines.

And to be able to  combine and break apart,  pairs of pages together.

You already has this option, double click on the page border, choose size (ie if the magazine is A4 portrait, choose A3 landscape), then go to "Layout"", choose "Booklet" or what you need. That's all. Is just for view, if you Publish as PDF, each page is send individually

  • CorelDraw makes auto backups, which is great. but if you force corel to close or it crashes and you restart Draw, it will attempt to open all of those autobackups. It asks you if you would like to open them, but they no longer have a specific name. Instead it's "Graphic 1" "Graphic 2", etc.. I think it would be great if the autobackups also retained the file name so you know what file you are agreeing to open.
  • Elliptical or rectangular gradients.
  • The ability to organize your fonts within Draw.  Let's say you wanted to temporarily group all you san-serif fonts together, or scripts, etc... I've got thousands and thousands of fonts and I have a hard time remembering all their names.  Sometimes I'm like "I need slab font" then I scroll all the way through the list looking for all of the fonts that fit that category until I find the perfect font for the job.  A feature like that would save me sooo much time.
  • The ability to turn off the preview when exporting files.  Sometimes it bogs down the exporting process, especially when creating large format images.  Every time you make a change to that image's properties, it has to re-render that preview, and it really slows the whole process down.
  • Another feature that I would find useful would be a stop watch feature that keeps track of how long you have been working on a given file.  It would have to some how record how long you are working though and not how long the file is open.
  • When using the contour tool in older versions of Draw you would create a contour and edit the distance and colors you want, then the next time you use that tool it would remember the last settings you used.  In X6 every time you use the tool it goes back to the default 1 step, .079", black outline, black fill. I would LOVE for it to be like it was in x5 and before.  I'm not sure why Corel changed that, I'm sure there is some good reason I can't think of.  So perhaps if there were just a setting you could change in the options to make one or the other the default setting.

  • and lastly I would like to see a feature can just crawl inside my head, predict what I want, and just reproduce it automatically on the screen.  Thats not too much to ask is it? LOL

Already you can do it, just rename the file Coreldrw.addon located on C:\Program Files\Corel\CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X6\Programs\Addons\ExportPreview for example, as Coreldrw.addon2, then restart the program.

Hi.

We need this. I also suggest sticky font favorites list, and ability to have a search filter box for the font you need all in CorelDraw, not Fontnav.

Ariel, Brother from a different mother....  You are the man!  I've been looking for the ability to do that since x5.  No wonder you're a Corel Master.  I'd hug you if you weren't thousands of miles away.  Thank you!

I'm not technical enough to have known to do that. I would imagine, neither is the vast majority of Draw users.  I wonder how difficult it would be to add a place to toggle it on and off in the program itself for those that wouldn't feel comfortable or know to rename a file.  For that reason, I'm still going to keep it on my list.  But seriously thank you.  This will help us at our business out immensely!
