Goodbye BFN - here.

Too many problems with fonts that were activated and not listed (as active) in BFN .

Now I use FontExplorer Pro - and now I have the fonts under control.

Sadly no Plugin for Corel only for Adobe and Quark. Perhaps in the future!

catch 22

I am new to the forums, but not new to CorelDraw (I started on Corel 3 - not X3). Yeah, I'm that old. I remember using Font Navigator when it belonged to a company who were bought by Adobe, who sold it to Bitstream, who licensed it to Corel. Back then it just worked. It has had it's problems over the years (mainly with postscript fonts) but the current version running on Win 7 64 is a dog. If I have a family of 8 fonts (light, light ital, reg, reg ital, bold, bold ital, black & black ital) then I get to see and use maybe 4 out of them - and not always the same 4! Some days the bold will be missing, other days it shows regular as thin italic. The problem is not with Windows 7 as I copied the fonts to the Windows Fonts folder as a test. All were available with Word, Illustrator, etc. Opened BFN, went 'find fonts' and it only showed 4 out of the 8. Strangely, all 8 showed up in Corel. It seems to be a problem with BFN not reading the font correctly and therefore not putting the shortcut into the Windows Fonts folder correctly. And it's not just opentype fonts. This problem occurs in truetype fonts as well. Strangely, postscript fonts don't seem to be affected. The best instance I have come across is with a family of only 2 faces - regular & bold. They don't offer italic in this face. Yet BFN offered me an italic version (no regular or bold). It even showed me an 'italic' version - which was the regular version slanted. Now that is talented - persistant little bugger of a problem

Corel have been remarkably quiet on this.

I'm having the same problem, except that for me it seems to be working correctly on my 64 bit desktop (at least I haven't noticed any fonts misbehaving there yet), but not working on my 32 bit laptop where several fonts are showing only two of the four fonts on the group.

Does anyone know if Corel have acknowledged that this is actually a recognised problem and is going to get fixed.

I swear I saw it in a thread that they did, but I can't find where they say they've logged it.

Yes Claude acknowledged this problem and even said that they would try to get it into SP1... who knows Tongue Tied

A HOTFIX for BFN is what we need.

Hi.

Having Hot-Fixes available more often  would help many frustrated customers.

BFN is a stand-alone program so it shouldn't really be very difficult to post a stand-alone fix for it.

Its a pity bitstream didn't open source the program code instead of just abandoning it, because I'm sure people could very quickly work out why it can't reliably tell the difference between normal and italic and fix it. Unless the problem is actually in a microsoft API, which would make things difficult.

Thanks Chris - it's a shame it didn't make it into Update (service pack) 1. Let's hope they do issue a hotfix for this ASAP and not wait for Update 2. It looks like the new update policy should allow for this.

What Foster said...we've chatted with them but we didn't come up with mutually beneficial terms to license the software.

What about NexusFont? Their technology looks really cool.

Hello; I think NexusFont works good but you have to watch it, it will load the fonts in Windows Fonts dir.
