I cannot add to the scrapbook in Corel x6  ...it appears Windows Vista is the problem.

Short of using another version of windows is there anything i can do??

Scrapbook is now called Connect. You can either use the docker within Draw or the stand alone program to browse any folder you choose. Are you getting an error message?

Thanks for the quick reply Columbus Ohio

I used to previously drag what i wanted to save from my drawing straight into the scrapbook at the side of my page. Then whenever i wanted to use that piece of work i dragged it from the scrapbook onto the page  ...it is very quick & useful!

I have found and can access the scrapbook in x6 and can drag items FROM it onto my page but cannot seem to SAVE anything to it. Although my colleague (who is using Windows XP) still can save,

Although i have not used Connect much i can see how to access my scrapbook and other files from it but i can't see how it replaces the actual scrapbook for ease of use??

Corel has basically eliminated Scrapbook. Sure, you can add it back in some form but it doesn’t work too well. CONNECT is supposedly a much improved version of Scrapbook but it doesn’t allow the saving of “scraps” and that is what you are unable to do. You’ll just have to save the selected objects as a CDR file instead of making scraps from them.

HI.

Sorry to hear the scrapbook might not be supported. A nice work around for you would be to write a macro that saves to the folder you have the scrapbook set too. You could make it save the selected item to a certain folder. If you use many folders then small shortcut keys to each macro with a difference of the save path for each. Once done a saved item should show in the scrapbook immediately.

You might give Corel Connect a try for a while. You'll probably feel a little out of the norm as far as your routine is concerned but hopefully it will grow on you.

Thanks for the advice Foster but a selected object cannot be saved as a CDR file can it??  ...the scraps are all individual .shs files.

Am i correct in thinkin i can only save a page (not individual objects) as a cdr file??  ...if this is true would i then need to save a page for each scrap?  ....we currently have literally hundreds of scraps in our scrapbook.

It's also strange that with Corel x6 we can still save scaps in the scrapbook on machines using Windows XP but not on machines using Windows 7 (not Vista as i previously mentioned!)

Selected objects is one of the options under File > Save As. But you are right that each occasion would save as a new file and that does seem a clumsy way of handling a lot of scraps.

The recentfiles macro would help to search and retrieve them if you give each scrap an appropriate name, but it is not currently available for 64 bit X6.

Hello John  ...thanks for the reply

I've never written a macro before & wouldnt know where to start but i will investigate!

I have tried Connect & it does seem useful from an importing point of view but we (here at work) have hundreds of scraps in our scrapbook & ongoing, need to find a way of continuing to save scraps to be used in some form.

Hello Harry

Ahhh  ...not noticed that before, but i have tried it & clicking selected only (as you suggested) saves scraps into the same scrapbook files as usual  ...they are just cdr files instead of shs  ..which is fine.

That saves a lot of messing around & we can continue to just use the scrapbook & not have to open Connect each time :-)

Thanks for that good sir

HI Pete,

I am relatively new to using CorelDraw, but one thing I use regularly is the Scrapbook.

Below is a way to add the Scrapbook Docker in X6.

-Tools->Customization->Commands

-Click on the binoculars at the top and type "scrapbook" in the dialog box->Click Next

-Click and drag the Scrapbook command onto your toolbar->Click OK to close the Options box

-Click on the Scrapbook icon that was created on your toolbar->Click Browse

From here you can navigate to where your scraps are stored and drag them into your drawings.

I hope this helps.  Have a good day.

Hi Rich

Thanks for that but i managed to find the scrapbook in x6  ...We can all see it here at work but the problem we have is only people using Windows XP can ADD to the scrapbook, the ones using Windows 7 can import from the scrapbook but not export new scraps to it!

Cheers anyway

Pete

Now that you know how to save objects as CDR files, that is a FAR superior way to work in the future. The scrap files are obsolete and I wouldn’t be shocked if they stopped working at some point. CDR files will keep working going forward.
