When I want to open a file, I click on file | open and the dialog box pops up. I like to have files sorted by date with the first on top. Something happened that it does not show the files first. It's showing the folders in descending order then the files. What do I need to do to make it show the files first?
I'm using CorelDraw X5 on Windows 7 64-bit.
If you use the detailed list view, just click on the header for the column you would like it to sort from. Click again to reverse the order. If you're using an icon or miniature view, you can right click anywhere in the dialog window and then choose what to sort from.
“The ability to think differently today from yesterday distinguishes the wise man from the stubborn”
The default order in the file > open dialogue is quite annoying.
You can change it temporarily by clicking on the column headers -- which wouldn't be quite such a nuisance if the window wasn't so stupidly small, forcing the date column outside the display area. But next time it reverts back to the previous default and as far as I'm aware it cannot be permanently configured to a more useful order.
The only solution I've found is not to use file > open but instead to open the folder from the windows run command box and drag the file in to CorelDraw from there (or just double click on it if its an associated file type). The size and order of the folder can be configured within windows (and the "groups" option is quite useful to show files under headings like "today", "yesterday" etc.
Somehow I was able to fix it. It now shows files first when I sort by date. I deleted "date modified" and added "date" and it worked. By accident, but it worked. I really like alot of things about Windows 7, but some things are terrible.
What OS are you on, Harry?
I have one machine using XP and the other Win 7 prof. Both machines insist on sorting by name in the CorelDraw file > open menu.
The same folders sort by date when opened from Windows.
Draw under XP doesn't remember sorting order (hence my question) but your Win7 installation should retain both sorting order and dialog box size, which also seems to be an issue for you. Strange.
