Problems.  Big problems!  Can anyone suggest solutions?

I may have been too quick to buy a new Lenovo T61 running the Vista Business 64-bit OS.  I went to the Corel site (as well as a few other software company sites) to make sure their products were Vista-compatible.  Corel's site said it was.  But I didn't do enough research.  It seems that CorelDraw is not 64-bit compatible... only 32-bit.

PROBLEM:   While working on a drawing, the entire illustration simply disappears.

Even if I change to wireframe view, there's nothing there.  You still see nothing on the screen.  If I choose "select all," nothing get's selected.  The drawing disappears completely. After this happens, I've learned to save the document and reopen it.  The illustration reappears only 50% of the time.  Sometimes it takes several tries to get the illustration back.  You can imagine how freaky and annoying this is after it happens 50 to 70 times.

PROBLEM:  Sometimes the illustration scrolls or jumps to either the left or the right, right off the page - moving the screen entirely off of the drawing without any apparent cause.  This happens very quickly... and only stops when I hit ENTER or tap the touch pad.

QUESTION:  Will downgrading to Vista 32-bit prevent this from happening?  Is there another solution?

QUESTION:  Has anyone else had this problem?  Is it a Vista problem or a Corel problem?

BACKGROUND:  I purchased and installed a full version of Corel X3 on my laptop and installed it from a CD.  It was not downloaded.

Thanks everyone!

Robert,

I've been running X3 on Vista Ultimate 32-bit since it was released and I've
not seen any such problem. I can't say if this is a 64-bit issue. It could
be a video driver problem.

What graphic card is your computer using? From memory, the T61 is based around an ATI graphics card. I suppose you've already updated to the latest graphics drivers and that you have Service Pack 2 installed for CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X3.

One more thing that we are currently investigating with certain laptop computers is a problem related to the trackpad sensitivity. Can you try to disable the sensitivity of your trackpad (or disable the trackpad completely and try with a mouse)?

Sometimes the illustration scrolls or jumps to either the left or the right, right off the page - moving the screen entirely off of the drawing without any apparent cause.  This happens very quickly... and only stops when I hit ENTER or tap the touch pad.

This sounds to me like a stickey key on the keyboard or something on the touch-pad not functioning right (not registering lifting your finger off perhaps?)

I'm running X3 on Vista on a laptop and about twice a week everything just vanishes (still have all the tools and commands, just no drawing); I think it's something to do with the touchpad. Close and open seems to kick it back to life. Now X4 is out I doubt that anything will be done about it.

Hi.  It's been a while, but I'm still having the same problems.  I've since gotten a new, larger hard drive... and when I did that, I also had Vista 32 installed, rather than Vista 64.

Whenever I'm using CorelDraw X3 either all or parts of the image dissapears.  I've learned that I can get the image to reapear by waiting a few minutes - but this works only occasionally.  Mostly, I need to save the drawing, close the file and re-open it.  But I need to do this around 5 to 10 times an hour.  That's areal pain.

The other issue relates to the screen jumping and scrolling all over the place.  This apparently is not confined to CorelDraw.  I've needed to replace the keyboard three times already, as the keys keep popping off.  The Lenovo T61p is a piece of garbage.  I've had other Thinkpads and never had these issues, or, candidly, other issues.  Apparently the Chinese purchasing Lenovo was good for them and not for their customers.

Sigh.

Robert,

Try using an external mouse not the touch pad and let me know if this fixes your problem with image disapearing. I have several laptops and this has fixed it for me!

Try hitting shift+f4 keys to solve this. I hope this helps.

Shift+f4 didn't do any thing other than show nodes!

Hi I am not sure if this will help but i had a similar problem with the screen "jumping" to other areas. I was using a optic mouse and apparently the optic eye was malfunctioning. I pluged in a new mouse and the problem seemed to stop. (assuming you are using a mouse and not the touch pad). Also the file disappearing thing sounds like a video card not being able to render the files mathmatics properly since you are able to retrive the information at times (the info still exsists just not shown, or "rendered") Suggest maybe trying a new mouse and testing your video card since replacing a laptops can be tricky to say the least. hope that helps...
