X4 went on sale on the UK yesterday and i purchased the eductional edition for my household.
I went to install it unto a family Core 2 Duo Gateway laptop running Vista Home Premium and 2GB memory.
I click the button to install, the processor speeds up and then install wizard starts but the program hangs and the processor goes back to idling over after about 1 minute.
I have left it alone for 15mins , 45mins and 1hr 10 mins but nothing appears to happen but when i quit out of the program it ask if i want to quit the install, i say yes and i get a message that my nothing has been changed on my pc.
I have checked the install directory but no Corel folder has been created.
I would really appreciate any advice on what might be causing the problem.
First, two comments. The Education Edition is not licensed for the household usage, e.g. it is different from the Home and Student versions that you can get from other software vendors. The other comment is that CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X4 comes on a dual layer DVD... because we include so much high-quality content and over 2 hours of training, it doesn't fit on 4.5 Gb...
I don't think that the fact that it is a dual layer DVD will be the reason for your problem... if the computer shows you the content of the DVD, you shouldn't have any problem.
On your computer, do you have other applications running at the same time, including those in the tray such as anti-virus / anti-spyware applications?

i bought this product in good faith as i have two children at primary & secondary school and they will get the benefit of it as will my wife who is a teacher. It wasn`t that cheap either - £104 delivered. Do you think i have bought the wrong version? No mention of a Home and Student version on any retailers web site - just full, upgrade and education
Sorry "in the tray" - could you explain what you mean. I am familar with shutting down prgrams and processes in the task bar.
The dvd is readable and i can view the contents
You did get the correct version.
Regarding the "in the tray", in the lower right corner of your screen, there is a clock and other little icons... these are called tray icons. This is where you will normally have your anti-virus running in the background. Can you try to temporarily disable your anti-virus and other applications running "in the tray" to see if this helps. Some anti-virus / anti-spyware solutions can interfere with the normal installation of products.
I disabled the firewall and anti virus software (MS OneCare) but it makes no difference
just gets to a point where i have a blanked out next button and an active cancel button
Have you been able to resolve your problem? If not, I would recommend you contact the Corel customer support in the country you live.
By chance did it get to the point where you could accept the License agreement (EULA)? I've seen an issue where the setup will go so far but it won't show the EULA for you to be able to accept it.

It is possible that the installer is not really thread safe and might be crashing because of the dual core CPU. Try putting NUMPROC=1 in your boot.ini (assuming Wondows XP SP2). Put his at the end of the operating system line (should be the second section) and it will disable the second core. We just had a problem here at my day job and we had to disable the second core to fix it.
