I am a relative new user of color management when using  Photopaint X3. I have an LCD monitor by Samsung which I have calibrated using  Colorvision Spyder2. This seems to give satisfactory results and not too different from the default  .icm. I have tried to calibrate my Epson R800 printer using  Spyder3Print which SEEMED to work OK but when I try to print on Epson Glossy paper I get terrible results. One question is -when does the PHotopaint program use the new printer .icm ? Is it at the print preview winow or at the  'working' window ? When I hit 'Print', for a reasonable looking image, the first printer dialog asks for a  'Properties '>Advanced> choose .icm etc>preview box shows image on page>apply>then Print Preview which takes one to the last page before printing.  All thes previews show different color intensities for the same image and the final print is way too dark. I have tried setting the default values under 'Printers and faxes' in the control panel of Win xp but still get bad results. I have tried using Default Epson .icm's but still bad results.

Look at the "Tools>Color MAnagement" dalog box, the printer profile should be loaded in the composit printer section. Now you can soft proof the picture by turning the arrow from the printer to the monitor on and it should show you what your final print will approximately look like. Don't forget that every printing paper needs it's own profile!!!!!!!

 Weirdly enough, Alfred, that does not work, at least not with my Epson R800 and CorelPP10.

I had given up trying to print with Corel, using Adobe instead. Panoral's question prompted me to look again at David's instructions in his excellent book, but to no avail.

I fell back on trial and error. Today, for the first time, I got a decent print using Corel!

I am attaching screen shots of the setup I used. I am not quite sure why it worked, but here are a couple of things which seemed to make the difference:

1. In CM setup double click the composite printer icon and ensure "Do not override" is selected under "Color Profile".

2. In print dialogue select "Apply ICC profile".  Why? I do not know - I thought I had already done this in the CM dialogue!

However the display on screen still looks terrible. I had to turn it off as you can see from my CM screenshot.
