unwanted shift in colour after bitmap conversion

     hello there,

I read it was useful to convert large pdfs into hires bitmaps before sending them off to the printers.

even very hires does not look too impressive onscreen, lines aren't that smooth. Looks fine when printed on a desktop printer, though, so that might not be a problem, after all. However, there is a definite shift in colour and the background bmp (shades of gray), suddenly turns out with a greenish-blue tint. Nice effect if that's what you're after, but what do I do to prevent this from happening?

Please, no hints on changing color values after conversion, it would probably influence other colours in the allover image.

    pointers and solutions greatly appreciated!!

    cheers

When converting to bmp make sure that the correct colour setting is checked. If you create you artwork on RGB then make sure your exporting it as a RGB bmp and not CMYK.

    Hope that helps?

    you were right,

I hadn't converted a layer of the background img to CMYK, which I have done now, converted the entire img to CMYK and guess what: instead of the greenish-blue tint it is now a blue tint with just a hint of green.

    am somewhat puzzled.

it's not even that it looks so very bad, but it doesn't really go with the corporate design, what a shame...

thanks anyhows and any further comments: you're welcome

"I read it was useful to convert large pdfs into hires bitmaps before sending them off to the printers."

Where did you read this? Sounds like one big fallacy to me.

Acrobat is ICC enabled. What are you viewing the bitmaps using?

     Hi Brisbane,

it was stated with passionate fervour in some other forum, and since the online printer does not accept layers and they could not tell me whether pdf was ok (as the programme you open the file with may recognize layers) I thought bmp was the way to go...

the data check (that does not cover such petty file issues) either went thru ok, or else they 'remedied' whatever, they sent me a mail to let me know they are proceeding to print. I am composing myself for having blue prints.

Ah, and they are not keen on ICC, no embedding of profiles. Dunno what they are using to open the files with. For myself: Onscreen (Acrobat/Corel) there was only a minor colour change, it showed when on being desktop printed (but the printer is usually pretty close).

    All's well that prints well!

    cheers, Berlin
