Importing PRN different in X4 than in X3

Here is something that I just encountered. For the past 8+ years, I've done this: In MS Access, I have some tables I've had to get into CorelDraw. I'd do a "print to file", which I would then import into CorelDraw. Through X3, I always got the same dialog box upon import, which asked me if I wanted to import text as text or curves. I have always imported as curves. Today I just noticed that the dialog box is considerably different in X4, and in fact I am not sure if it's even the same thing.

So just now I opened the same file in X3 and then in X4. I imported the same file into each, and took screenshots of the dialog box I received for both. I even tried F8'ing X4 to see if it were some sort of bug, but that didn't change things.

I really just need to bring the file in as curves, but I'm not sure what to do with the new dialog box. Any ideas?

Note that the X4 import box is offering HPGL Options. HPGL is Hewlett-Packard Graphics Language, so that means either you selected the wrong import type or that X4 thinks the PRN file is for an HPGL or HPGL-2 plotter.

Have you tried copying (to clipboard) and then pasting into Corel?

Or, if that fails, X4 now has tables, where you could set your tables up the way that you want them and then copy/paste cell contents.

(I believe that Corel will import Excel files or portions thereof. I do not own M$ Office, so I am uncertain.)

Your dialog box seems that you don't use a Postscript printer, because it's the dialog of a PCL printer driver.

Re: Importing PRN different in X4 than in X3

I guess that's why I'm confused because X3 gives me a different dialog box than X4 for the exact same import file. I'm printing to a file from Access using the "HP Laserjet 5P/5MP Postscript" driver, which I've used for many years. Every version of CorelDraw has handled the import of these files the same until X4.

For now I can just import them into X3, and then work on the files in X4. I just wish that I could figure out an X4-only solution.

I do very much appreciate the replies.

A postscript print files is supposed to have extension .PS

I would suggest creating or renaming the files -whatever-.ps

Hey Paul, thanks for the tip.

I was a bit skeptical, but merely renaming the file to *.ps actually worked! I now see my familiar Text/Curves import dialog box.

Thank you so much for your input. This will save me a lot of time over the long run ;-)
