I just can't resist... Drug testing for signwriters... If they made that universal and Monday morning in Australia the industry would close down. ;)

It's a nation built on convicts.

That said we have been going backwards on all issues of personal choice. Cigarettes are $12 a packet here, fireworks were banned 20 years ago, hick hiking is banned, guns are out... It's the safest, cleanest country on Earth. Drug testing is becoming common place. It's not uncommon for them to run drug detection dogs through the night life areas and beach resorts. It's had a really positive effect, the police can enter a house without reason, self harm has been criminalized where it should be a health issue, the 2 drug companies that make those tests get X4 more when sold to law enforcement than similar test used in medicine, insurance companies get a new excuse not to pay out,  it siphons money which could be diverted to helping people with real drug problems and best of all makes solicitors rich. I'm a big supporter of the industrialization of criminalization. Since we became incapable of manufacturing anything in this country we needed to find a new industry that fitted with our past. This one is perfect, drop people off unemployment stats by reclassification as unemployable, privatize the jails, expand law enforcement... the cultural benefits to society are nothing short of breathtaking.

PS: They closed down every Starbucks outlet in the country today. Every shop, 61 in total. It's an end to weak coffee in paper cups.

Is this real, or it is a joke?

Yes, convictions is a big business in USA too. You can legally sale products that produce cancer or secondary dangerous effects, but you can not use natural drugs or home made alcohol. If you have money you don't got to jail, but if you are poor, you can get life time easily.

On the news here they said 600 Starbucks were to be closed in the USA.

That sorta stuff just wouldn't happen if they were 600 Italian run independent coffee shops.

Responsibility in employment seems to have become a very one sided affair, internationally.

Big corporations Yani Wink

I feel for you down there. Up here in Sweden we actually DONT and have NEVER had any Starbucks. We have our own individuals cafés and our own coffee chains. The Equivalent to Starbucks. They are called (the biggest ones) : waynes.se , espressohouse.se ,  robertscoffee.se , bygeorge.se and of course the one with only 2 shops... sosta.se , but its a real nice one. They dress in bold tie, blue imaculate shirts and take coffee and "italien style" extremly serious Wink
