Hello Iain,
iainc: I am trying to import iges files into corel draw for use with a laser cutter. Do I need an external file converter to do this?
as mentioned by Paul, IGES is a specific 3D CAD file format and it is not supported by CorelDRAW. The good news is that Corel has just announced Corel DESIGNER Technical Suite X4 (think of it as CorelDRAW for technical graphics) and is offering an add-on for DESIGNER X4 that provides support for a long list of different CADCAM file formats, including IGES. Here is a link to the full list: http://www.corel.com/servlet/Satellite/us/en/Product/1213733084350#tabview=tab2
As a CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X3 or X4 customer, you are eligible to the upgrade price of DESIGNER X4, and you will need to add the Deep Exploration 5.5 CCE upgrade option to DESIGNER if you need access to IGES without having a licence os IGES on your system.

To the best of my knowledge there are no viewers for them.I regularly receive PDFs made from files that in turn made the IGES files; that is probably the only route which will get them into Corel Draw. The IGES, STEP and related files are useless to me and are just forwarded to the machine shops which will do the work. The PDFs made from some step along the way (such as Solid Works?) are quite clean and import well. The other options are to have the upstream people make a DWG or other CDR-friendly Autocad file. No matter how well done and which route is followed (PDF, DWG etc.) Iain will probably have to do some cleanup for his purposes. Note EPRT files etc. from CAD work are strictly bit map and, while invaluable for many purposes with the free viewer, are useless for Iain's purpose.Edward Thurston wrote: Open a blank document page first and Import ( not Open) the ..jpg file.
