    Rotate bug?

I have been using CorelDraw V6, 10, and 12 for many years. I am recently using Designer X4. But two things puzzle me:

    1)  On many occasions, when I try to rotate an object via the rotate tool in the Transformation pulldown, the angle provided is only 1/30th the amount I request in the window. If I type 90, it rotates only 3 degrees. Sometimes I can solve this by restarting the program, and then it works correctly, but that is annoying to have to do, and the problem recurs from day to day. I do not ever see this error with Draw on the same machine, even when running in parallel with X4. Is this a bug?

    Ok, here's another question:

    2) In Draw, the Transformation pulldown gave me access to the Size tool, which allowed me to set an anchor for the object, then size it explicitly. I liked that! Now, in Designer, the Size tool only offers scaling with an anchor option—there’s no explicit sizing option (that I can find) except via the property bar. Yes, I can size the object explicitly there, but I cannot see how to set an anchor point for the object—so it is always center justified. Is there a way to apply an anchor preference somewhere? It's a really useful feature in Draw.

    Thanks!

Are you talking about the transformation docker?

    Re: Rotate bug?

    Hello folks,

I found the same bug from time to time using the rotate function in the transformation docker. I reported it in the beta testing group for beta 2, and it was reported cured in the final release. However, it still occurs from time to time and you have to close and restart the program to cure it (if you are lucky).

About the sizing, I support the the need for this.

    Kind regards, JoostJ

Thanks, Joost, for the sanity check wrt the rotate bug. Is there some official way or place I should report it?

If you can reproduce it (or when it occurs next time) it would be great if you report the issue to the Corel support team. Go to http://support.corel.com/ and use the "E-Mail Corel" tab to log that issue with all information you can give there.

This way it can be evaluated by the technical support and then handed over to the development team with all necessary details.

The suggestion about the sizing feature has been received!

    Thanks!
    Klaus.

    Re: Rotate bug?

    Hello Klaus,

I reported the rotate bug already in the beta test phase, but also for the current relase.

It seems that the bug occurs especially when you have specified a edit scale other than 1:1. (There are more places where the developpers forgot to adjust to the scaling factor settings, e.g. the coordination points for multi-point lines in the coordinates docker - also reported)

The sizing proposal:I think it would be a good idea to make the "origin point" specifiable in the scaling, flipping and skewing dockers in the same way as in the rotate docker. I remember I proposed someting like that already for TD12.

I also submitted a (urgently needed) proposal to display the selected node coordinates in the property bar when using the shape tool, and make those coordinates specifiable over there (They now are only displayed in the staus bar and are not updatable other than by dragging them).

    Kind regards, JoostJ

    Re: Rotate bug?

    Hello Klaus and others,

As a follow up on the rotate bug.

Today, it occurred again after having worked quite some time on several drawings. Even starting a complete new document did not help.

However, when you close down the program and then restart it again, all is working fine, also in already existing drawings that you open.

Somewhere, somehow, sometime, during using TDX4 some setting is corrupted and thereafter the rotate in the docker is not working properly anymore. The rotate in the property bar gives no problems, also when the docker is fauled up.

I will try to draw the attention of the Corel people in Canada to this once more.

    Kind regards,

    JoostJ

    Re: Rotate bug?

I found that when the rotate bug is happening, I can still apply the desired rotation by typing it into the "angle of rotation" window in the Transform Command Bar, which is activated thru Tools/Customization/Command Bars. At least it keeps me going without having to reboot.
