    Fonts and Text Issues

Okay.  These 2 items must be related.

    I'm on Win XPP. CDX4

    1. When I copy text elsewhere from an outside application (e.g. Outlook, Word, Notepad, etc) and try to paste in CorelDrawX4 as Artistic or Paragraph text, I get the "Exporting/Pasting Text" dialog box.  It matters not any of my choices in the selections offered - when I continue with OK, CD locks up while "processing" and I need to force abort the program (End Program)... loosing any recent additions to the job file.

    2. Bitstream Font Navigator (BFN).  Whenever I launch this font manager, any changes I request (add font, delete font) always results in this application (BFN) locking up... and I need to force abort this program (End Program).  However, my request is accomplished - the font is added to the Windows Font File (or delete).  I just can not use the request more than the one attempt, which is successful, though it crashs the program.

So - is the "Paste" function in CDX4 linked to the use of BFN?  What is the problem here?? (as BFN is no longer supported by anyone, yet Corel insists on including it).  What is my remedy?  Corrective action?

Finally, while I have you... can you recommend a GREAT font management program?  Suitcase for Win 11 did not work at all for me.

    Thanks. ~S

BFN is a plague on mankind.  Corel says to talk to the Bitstream company.  Bitstream company says talk to Corel.  No one knows anything about it's problems....

How many fonts have you installed in your system?  Sometimes, too many fonts causes problem. Also, Acrobat 8 has some problems with FontNavigator. And some Windows problems or Windows registry damaged causes similar effects. But million people uses FontNavigator everyday without problem, I agree that FontNav is not perfect, and is not the best font manager, but is not so diabolic that you said. Big Smile

Thanks, everyone so far, for your assistance.  My responses...

Yeah... Windows and Fonts.  Such a dilemma!  I am actually doing my best to manage fonts on this new system ... keeping the number loaded in the Fonts file to a minimum... like 400 right now.  My old system had 1200.  But these font managers each do it differently... and NONE intuitively.  Really!  Some excell on the one hand and are utterly clueless/useless on the other.

I am uncertain why my system is having a problem with BFN... or Suitcase for that matter.  I just want to work in CorelDraw and paste text and NOT have it freeze-up on me.

About BFN.  Diabolic?  There must be a reason Corel ships and insists on the continued use of an old, unsupported piece of software and I am suggesting that the BFN engine is somehow utilized in font management withing the Corel Suite.  We may have an option to install it, but I bet it is utilized nevertheless.

Linotype FontExplorerX is not available for Windows, btw.

Does Corel Tech Support review/oversee these posts in the forum???

    Re: Fonts and Text Issues

You can install CorelDRAW without FontNavigator, if you want. The advantage of have both is great: if you open a docuemnt, and need to install fonts, ut this font is present in the FontNav database, CorelDRAW automatically prompt for missing fonts and allows you to install this font, permanent or temporary, or replace for other. This is a great advantadge!

With both programs, you don't need to have hundreds of installed fonts. You can preview the font without install it, can change the text sample, print samples and much more. You can install and uninstall just what you want. For example, you can hae "gruops" of fonts. If you wor with a magazine, just create a new group and put all font that you need. You cant install the group, and, when you finish, unistall the entire group. Simple and fast. I have more than 40.000 fonts, but only a few installed. Only what I need.

If you not have a good font management, you will have the same problem with TypeManager, FontExplorer, Suitcase and all font managers.

There are so many font managers, here is a selection that might help:

I recommend either MainType or FontExpert.
