No but make suer you look at your V12 color management settings so you can make the transition to the X6 color management more easily.

Re: Graphics Suite 12 - Upgrade to X5 or X6 advice needed

Firstly,

My apologies for the late reply to the answers I requested.

Thank you all for your input and advice I have been researching Graphics Suite X6 and I'm amazed at what I know I will be able to do with this program. I think it's just amazing and can't wait to start using it however, I will keep Graphics Suite 12 as a back-up just in case.

I'm from Melbourne Australia and was also wanting to know when X6 full version will be available to purchase, I'm reluctant to download the upgrade as it will convert all of my Graphics Suite 12 into the new format? I have a lot of work saved and don't want it converted, will this happen?

Thanks guys for your time

Hello,

Wayne here from Think It, Ink It we've been using Graphics Suite 12 for a long time now creating flyers along with many different designs for custom / general self inking and traditional rubber stamps. Graphics Suite 12 is a great program it is user friendly with many features as you all know however, we are looking at upgrading to either X5 or X6.

Can any of you give some advice on these two? are they user friendly? are there a lot of changes that may take time to adjust compared to version 12? We are a busy company and need this to be smooth transition please advise which one you think would be best?

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Kind Regards

Wayne Curley

Think It, Ink It - if you 'think it',we'll 'ink it'

I fully support anyone upgrading to X6, period.
And if you use version 12, then more fun for you in your daily work, so much improved its like giving yourself a nice present. And on top of it you will save money in the future because after june this year you wont be able to only pay an upgrade price for it. As mentioned by Gérard from Corel.

I would like to list all the new and improved features and tools, but coming from version 12, there are so many of them in CorelDRAW, and even some in Photo-Paint.

Scanning in 64 bit version of X6 is NOT broken, it is the DRIVERs supplied by Scanner manufacturers that are not full 64 bit drivers. I wrote about this fact already in december last year on my blog (the english language blog of mine as well as swedish one) Here in english languiage http://stefanlindblad-english.blogspot.se/2011/12/canon-doesnt-create-proper-scanner.html

And of course I wrote another newer blogpost about this here http://stefanlindblad-english.blogspot.se/2012/03/scanning-coreldraw-x6-64-bit-macro-from.html

Re: Graphics Suite 12 - Upgrade to X5 or X6 advice needed

***if you do a lot of scanning that scanning
directly into Draw is broken with X6 64 bit

It is not broken. It works great IF you have a
64-bit TWAIN driver. The problem is there are very few of them.

There are solutions right now for those who
need them.

I covered all of these issues in my
blog.

Good idea to upgrade. You'll probably have to eventually. I'd go for X6 since it's the newest and will be supported for longer time in the future.

Yep. I really liked 12 too. Great program, fast operation.

What to expect. Expect it to have a little speed bump here and there but nothing major. You will probably have to make a few workflow changes but you will learn much in the process. Many awesome new tools that you can integrate into to work flow to save hours literally Just to name a tiny few of the improvements: The Smart Fill, rounded contour corners, reduced contour tool nodes, improved text to path, and especially very powerful vba goodies for the ultimate in automation of those boring repetitive tasks!

When you go over the first little bump feel free to post a question here and we'll help ya out for sure.

I definitely recommend upgrading directly to X6. The big change to get used to, in my opinion is the way that layers work - or don't, depending upon how you use them. In CD12 a non-master layer appears on every page. Toggling settings (eg printable) would effect every page. This was very useful for me as I use layers to differentiate purpose (eg one layer for the front of a flashcard, another for the back). X5 and X6 broke the old layer model. I ended up making my own docker to get the functionality I lost moving to X5. But if you don't use layers much, or need page specific layers - different layers on different pages - then X5/X6 are much more useful.

X6 has some teething problems but I prefer using X6 64 bit over X5 32 bit. It was a real struggle for me moving from CD12 to X5. I think moving from CD12 to X6 would have been a little easier. X6 has better styles and text options than X5. Be aware that if you do a lot of scanning that scanning directly into Draw is broken with X6 64 bit. Corel are supposed to fix this with the first service pack. But in my mind given Corel's new upgrade policy it makes little sense to get X5. Good luck!

Re: Graphics Suite 12 - Upgrade to X5 or X6 advice needed

Whatever decision you will take (I would recommend you go to X6, but I am biased), note that the ability to upgrade from version 12 to X6 is only available for a limited period of time. By mid-June 2012, you will only be able to upgrade to X6 if you have X4 or X5.

You can also keep ver. 12 loaded in case you need to do something fast, by falling back to a program you know.
I'm using the 64 bit X6 and I think it's grate, it wont take long to get up to speed with X6.

My Thoughts George

Re: Graphics Suite 12 - Upgrade to X5 or X6 advice needed

Wayne:

now creating flyers along with many different designs for custom / general self inking and traditional rubber stamps.

Rubber stamps shoul dbe a no brainer but flyers may be an issue depending on how you set V12 up. X5 and X6 use a new color management process which is more commercially compatible.

Did you use v12 default settings?

Re: Graphics Suite 12

Recently, a local company upgrade from CorelDRAW 12 to X6. Alter install, the program, I went tto the company and share some basic concepts. One hour later, they uninstalled CorelDRAW 12.

The use of the program is very similar. If you work fine with CorelDRAW 12, you will work better with X6. Differences? of course, after 8 years you will find several improvements. Also, a few differenes you can modify for works better, such as the "treat as filled" option by default, that you can disable under Tools / options / toolbox / pick tool. And the color management has changed after four versions, but if you use a color profile you can use the same color profile under X5 or X6... with a lot of new features for a better results! At the other side, you will see a los of improvements, the full compatibilty with WIndows 7 (32 and 64 bits), multi-core use, the 64 bits allows the usage of all the RAM memory (v.12 only can use 2 Gb max of RAM, X6 64 has not limit), and a lot of new tools and features

Graphics Suite 12 - Upgrade to X5 or X6 advice needed

Hello,
