Is there a way to occasionally stop the duplicate function from using the previous duplicated object location as a guide to placing the next duplicated object? When I duplicate an object that will be located at regular intervals it is nice that the duplicate function identifies the pattern of X and Y offsets and uses that to place the next object. That is a real time saver. Occasionally though, I will duplicate something and place it far away from the original. If I duplicate it again, it will place that duplicate object way off the page so that I have to zoom out to grab it. I'm wondering if there is a constrain key that will stop it from following the pattern and use the normal X and Y offsets.
Consider using other methods of duplicating, check the "Quick Duplication" wiki.

Open the Transform bar and enable or disable the icon at the end: Relative to object or Relative to page
Also you can use the Transfrom docker (Alt+F7)

I opened the Transform toolbar but I don't see any difference in using Control D when the Relative to Object icon is enabled or disabled - the duplicated object still follows the offsets of the last duplicate action.
I think that the number pad + key is the slickest. The two mouse button trick is a little awkward but it would be good for dropping copies of an object around various locations on the page.
And what about the Transform docker (Alt+F7) ?
I don' t see the Relative to Object Icon on the Transformation docker. The icons on top of the docker start with Move and end with Project
