Hi, Jeff. I keep some rocks in my pocket. Could you, please, convert then in gold coins? (ha ha ha)

hi jeff.

i just checked out yor work and i'm very impressed. excellent work.

i'm only begining to get into that sort of artwork lately, i really enjoy it but there isn't much call for it in the sign industry in ireland and thats what i mainly do.

Hi C,

thanks, glad you like it. I also work in signs (part time). With large format devices becoming popular, we see clients looking for more full color work.

In spite of that, the goal for me is always readability and tastefulness. Sometime people new in the business cram in fonts and colors that are overkill. When I design, I think: "A million or more people will see this. It this the right art for this customer?"

you are right jeff, it's not always right for the customer, i am working in the sign industry for 19 years long before digital imagery and large format printing was affordable for a lot of sign companies (well in ireland anyways) but it's no harm to know the old ways, but i find that a lot of the time the simple design is what the customer wants, if the sign or vehicle is easily read from a distance they are very happy. too many fonts and colours is just messy for signage

Yes, smart customers with existing businesses or who are older almost always ask for simplicity IMO. For clear communication purposes, but also for economical reproduction.

But, the youth and new business seem to want the splashiest color and craziest effects. To them, how the overall thing looks is more important than the message. Which I think is the wrong way to go. Sure it catches attention, but that doesn't mean the viewer remembers anything. It's like someone screaming in your face. Your senses are shocked and you don't remember what they're even saying.

Also, I see some artists trying to be so clever or apply marketing psychology, but customers wipe that stuff aside as being manipulative.
