deal all,

i need two help.

1. Could someone tell me hot to make a bra-ket notation in a professional way in corel-draw ver12. (not the greater than symbol!)??

2. I know how to type/include a curly bracket..but after making when i enlarge the thickness of line increases..does anyone know how to reduce the thickness??

thanks

For the bra and ket symbols you are going to have to use a symbol or mathematical font.  You can insert special characters in CorelDraw. In X4 it's on the Text menu. In version 12, I believe it was on the Tools menu. Note: you need to have a the Text tool active (artistic or paragraph) to use insert, otherwise you will get a vector of the symbol and not a font character.   You could also use Windows Character Map. Search for a suitable math font and then simply copy and paste the symbols as needed.

As for the thickness of the curly bracket, try using a different font.

Hi Patti,

No i cannot make..could you please tell me step by step:

I want to make as follows:

|3/2,\pm1/2x

i can also insert a pipe symbol.

Here \pm is the plusminus symbol: i can include it by pressing cntrl+F11, then i can select the plusminus symbol.

X is the ket symbol (in tex-- \rangle and unicode is U+27E9), i.e. a similar like greater than symbol. Ket sometimes called as angle braket. This is the symbol i am struggling to insert--seems corel draw doesnt has that in crtrl+F11 list

thanks for your help

Sorry!..now i solved the problem..

May be helpful for others..

1. In ms word i inserted the angle bracket (actually not available in character map..so went to 'insert' then 'symbols' then 'special character' tab then there you find a command '\rangle' check the box, so in ms word when you type \rangle you get that angle bracket symbol..)

2. copy and paste that angle bracket in to coreldraw...(dont forget to check for two different font style of the symbol- (as for as i know only cambria math and arial unicode works with that angle bracket..))

i think it is good..

thanks

this is my simple solution [probably somebody will laugh at it]-

try drawing the bracket by using freehand tool by keeping the thickness as desired & then copy & paste it & then make it mirror-reflection by using the transform docker.

I an not very math oriented. I am curious. What does Bra-Ket symbol look like. Can someone show me in an image or direct me to a site the shows them or it.

They look like tall, flattened less than and greater than symbols. Take a look at this link:  http://www.conservapedia.com/Dirac_Notation

Now, please don't ask me what any of the formulas mean. :-)  I am only familiar with the symbols because several years ago my daughter who is working toward a PhD in Physics switched to Linux because it's easier to write her papers.

Thank you Patti.

Now that I know what to look for, MathType has a font called Eculid Symbol that contains the elusive bra-ket. There is a trial version available. In the enclosed CDR file I converted the font to curves as most will not have the font.

Don't suppose you could help me understand String Theory also? Confused

Yes i did that before..but it will really difficult to control precisely..when you have lots of ket symbols....

or at least you have to remember all parameter..

Wouldn't using the Euclid Symbol Font and the key codes for the bra-ket (Alt+0225) and (Alt+0241) simplify the process. I use several Alt Key parameters that I remember, mainly I use the degree symbol. Fortunately it is in most fonts..

EDIT I think that i must be mistaken and that bra-ket is a set of varying symbols each

Hi,

Actually i tried to use the code..i dont know why it doent work!!!

recently i got to know that on can insert using math option..just go to 'edit' then 'new object insert' then click 'math option'..now you will get a small window same like the one in msword math editor..then you can select the symbol you need..

thanks

When using Alt codes the number portion must me entered via the numeric key pad. If you select Text and the Euclid Symbol font, which comes with MathType, in CorelDRAW the codes should work. The same code in other fonts will not work.
