[sigh]
I have Ventura 8 build 429 I want to update it to the latest version. I DL'd service pack 2 and ran it but all I get is a blue screen with the announcement that the "service pack is intended for the English version of Ventura 8 builds 429 or 433" and when I click on the Ok button, the blue screen instantaneously disappears and nada. Ventura 8 is not updated.
I tried running the service pack from the download directory and from the Ventura\Programs directory...no joy.
What am I doing wrong?

I might add that I just recently updated my video drivers and when I tried to install the update i had disabled my anti virus soft ware.
I am using windows firewall, but didn't disable that.
I hope someone will have an answer or suggestion for making the upgrade....I am wanting to get back to work.

Eric,
Thanks for the response. If it makes any difference, I am not getting any error message when I try to install sp2...it just doesn't go anywhere.
I will do as you say and let you know what happened.
Out of curiousity, what changes did Corel make to Ventura 8 with sp1 and 2? are they critical changes. I want to install the patches but and am hoping to be successful but if I can't I wonder what the down side is? Now that I think about it, i don't think I ever got the patch to install on Ventura before I had my recent troubles and had to reinstall from the disk.
All the problems with importing pictures might have been cured if I'd had the patch installed...or maybe not?
Thanks...that worked and now I am current.
Sad to say, however, first time out...in a brand new publication...importing a jpg cause the "browse files" windows to freeze. I don't know if I'll ever lick this.
eweber:Do you have the preview turned on in the Import Picture dialog? Does disabling the preview help?
I do have it turned on, but I am not sure how turning it off will help if only because sometimes the instant the "browse files" window opens the window locks up without even displaying the radio buttons or options in the window (couldn't turn "preview" off if I wanted to, in other words)...and the files section of the window is blank (I cant even see the list of files).
On the other hand, there are other instances when the "browse files" windows opens, and the files are visible and I can even click on the scroll button...once or twice...before the window locks up.
The update did make Ventura more stable, I will say that. Now I can click out of the frozen window without having to completely re-boot. Of course Ventura closes in the process. So that's no help.
I am nearly frantic...Ventura is the only program on my computer doing this, but aside from email and so forth Ventura is, or has been, one of the programs I use the most. I have lost so much time and momentum on my project...I am thinking about trying to pick up where I left off with some other program. The only thing stopping me...even if I would have to work one page at a time...is the equation editor. No other program I have run across has an equation editor that is so complete and provides results so integrated.
After a complete shut down/restart I did manage to open the browse window and disable "preview." I also loaded my photo into the "navigator" rather than the document. I don't know if either will make a difference. We'll see.
Two days later and up til now no problems. Just got done editing a jpg in PP and when I tried to import it into the navigator, I go the dreaded empty window.
I won't be able to import that jpg until tomorrow...after I have shut down for the night and started back up again in the morning.
