Hi,
I have a bit of a problem with CD11.
Recently when I make some layers e.g. layer 1 and layer 2 on page 1 and then add next one or more pages those new pages contains the same set of layers as page 1. What's more, CD11 claims that all those layers on new pages are the layers from page 1.How do I know that? When I tried to delete layer 1 from page 2 CD11 asked me if I really want to delete this layer because it contains objects on other pages. When I add new layer to any page it shows on all pages as empty one and changing name of one layer on any page renames this layer on all pages.
I would like to turn that off. If anyone knows the solution, please share with me. And to answer question you may have: I don't really know how that happen, how I turned this "option" on.
--------- additional info -----------For the time being I'm trying to work with what I have. Till now I tried a bit drastic solution: - uninstall CD11 without removing user files and instal CD11 again - solution failed- uninstall CD11 with removing user files and instal CD11 again - solution failed- none of the solutions proposed below worked (well, not mentioning that suggesting getting used to the problem or buying new X4)
I was trying to figure out what might caused that and I thought about "CorelDraw11SVGUpdate" I installed. I hope that's not it because it seem that there is no simple way to uninstall that thing.
One more thing, I use CD11 ver.11.704 I don't know if that's the case but for this version neither SP1 nor SP2 can be applied.
Hi Mat3m!
I had the same problem so I understand your frustration.
The X4 version does not have this issue .
You can name the layers the way you want them.
If you keep working in that version, I believe that you will have to ignore this and
create names that give you a hint at layer and page.

Working with CorelDRAW PREMIUM suite X5
Well, I know that new X4 is better than old CD11 but when you have to cope with limited resources you don't buy the newst software you can find. Thx, for your advice thou, it will be my last solution. I still have hope that problem can be soved somehow.
From CorelDraw Help Topics
"To do the following:
Make a layer active Click Tools Object manager. Click the name of a layer.
Allow editing of all layers Click Tools Object manager. Click the flyout button and click Edit across layers.
Allow editing of the active layer only Click Tools Object manager. Click the flyout button, and enable Edit across layers.
Lock or unlock a layer Click Tools Object manager. Click the Pencil icon beside the layer name.
Notes
· If you disable the Edit across layers button, you can work on the active layer and the Desktop layer only. You can't select or edit objects on inactive layers.· You can't "lock" or "unlock" the Grid layer.
Tips
· You can also allow editing of the active or of all layers by enabling or disabling the Edit across layers button in the Object manager Docker window/palette. Editing across layers is enabled when the button appears pressed.· You can also lock or unlock a layer by right-clicking (Windows) or Control + clicking (Mac OS) the layer in the Object manager Docker window/palette and clicking Editable.
Hope this helps.
Let not the one who says it can't be done interrupt the one who is doing it.
Hey Mat3m,
I am by no means a Corel Draw guru, but I had something screwy like that happen to me when I was working in CD12. I woke up one morning and and I was getting duplicates of all kinds of stuff: I'd draw a square and move it, and there were several layers of identical squares beneath where I drew the original one.
I searched around for a fix, and someone suggested "the ol' F8 trick." I'd never heard of that before because I had NEVER EVER had a problem with Corel Draw before. I SWEAR I hadn't changed anything--one day it worked; next day, it was self-multiplying my stuff! Anyway, if you mash F8 while Corel Draw is starting up, the factory defaults are restored. I lost my customizations, but it fixed the little quirk, so maybe it'll help you, too...?

Graewerld: That looks to me as a good hint but unfortunatelly that's not my case, thx.
TheLaserBeam: I gave it a try, CD11 asked if I am sure that I want to reset my current workspace, I answered 'yes' and it still displays the same layers structure on all pages - doesn;t work for me. Thx for advice.
That's just the way CorelDraw works in versions prior to X4: "Layers" are a document-wide thing that span all the pages in the document. Or to put it another way, all the pages in a given document have the same set of layers, so when you add, delete, or rename a layer, you're not just doing so for the page you're on but for all the pages in the document.
And some of us actually like it that way, and hated that X4 changed how layers worked: http://coreldraw.com/forums/t/10448.aspx
It's a personal preference. Some people are more bothered by layers being "empty" on some pages, and by adding/deleting/renaming/reordering layers having an effect across the entire document. Others are more bothered by different pages having different sets of layers that have to be fiddled with.
EKB: That's what I find a bit strange... I mean I used CD11 for last 2-3 years designing some graphics for leaflets and posters but it always had the ability to show different set of layers on different pages that I could rename at will and delete as well.
And what you say would mean that it had some error prevoiusly from the start... god, I would like my CD11 got that error again.
Am I wrong thinking there is no macro that would help to achive X4 layer functionallity in CD11?
Thx.
I know that's how it works in Coreldraw X3 and how it worked in CD12. I thought that was how it worked in CD11 and earlier versions, but my memory could be wrong - it has been a long time since I last used CD11 or earlier. So I find it strange that your CD11worked the way you said it did. Do you still have one of your CD11 documents with different layers on different pages?
We need a real Coreldraw expert here to sort this out, rather than a fake expert like me.
I think I could find some of my old projects but I'm afraid opening it with my CD11 as it is now will rearrange its structure and without opening it I really doubt I'll be able to say which one is multi-page and multi-layer.
Well, it seems that I will have to get used to it...
Experts are experts, fake ones doesn't exist, what differs them is only the depth of knowledge :)
Thank you all for your efforts to help me. However, if you, by any chance, will find some kind of way to sort it out, please give me a hint here ;)
