Hey all,

A bit of a newbie both here and with X4 so excuse my lack of detail with this question! I am having an issue when converting a file saved as a .cdr to .ai and maintaining file size. The cdr file is roughly 12mb but when converted to ai it blows up to 32mb which makes handling difficult without an ftp site to exchange. The file is made up of draw elements, vector graphics and artistic text, all flat where applicable and saving as curves. Am I missing an obvious step here when converting to ai or am I stuck with this huge file - finish output size overall is 20.5" x 42" -

Thanks in advance!

CDR is a compressed file format, AI is really a bloated file format and I'm afraid all you can try is to compress it.

Like David said, CDRs are compressed while CorelDRAW can not export to AI with compression (Illustrator can though).
If the file is intended for Illustrator users, I'd suggest you Publish to PDF instead. The file size will be much smaller (probably even smaller than the CDR) and Illustrator will still be able to open it. Try PDF compatibility level Acrobat 6.0.
