Very strange problem here, running PhotoPaint X3 13.0.0.739. I am resampling photos for use in printed documents and on the web. Starting from a CPT, I create two JPG versions of the file: one is saved at 300dpi, the other sampled down and saved at 72dpi.

When I double-click on the low-res version, it opens just fine. When I double-click on the hi-res version, I get the message "file not found". It is not specific to one file, but occurs across all the pics I have created  in this way, wherever they are saved. However if I open PhotoPaint first and then open the file, it all works fine.

I'd add that it doesn't happen with the version of PhotoPaint I am using on another PC (which is still X3 but a slightly different version, I believe)

Any ideas, please? It's driving me crazy. Thanks.

why would you do that? Web browsers don't care what the resolution of a
bitmap is. They only care about the true physical dimensions of the image. A
300x300 pixel image will display as 300x300 regardless of whether the
bitmap's resolution is 72, 96, 100, 300, 100000 ppi. So if you're making
both a "print" and a "web" version of the file, the PPI can remain the same,
just change the physical h/w if the image in pixels.

Interesting. Have you tried right clicking on the file and then Open With and chosing CorelPhotoPaint.

Hi. Thanks for replying. Yes, I have tried that: it still says "file not found". For the record, the images work fine in other packages (PaintNet, PhotoShop), and in Version 13.0.0.576 of PhotoPaint (ie without the service packs applied).

Thanks for the advice. Unfortunately, this doesn't really help with the problem of not being able to open the 300dpi versions I have created.

You may want to try saving the file a Corel CPT from the 13.0.0.576 version, and see if it will open in the later version.

I've done that. I am actually working in both different versions of PhotoPaint, depending on where I am, but the result is the same: the latest version will not open these files, unless I open PhotoPaint first and then locate them.

Just for clarification, Are you saying that when you double click on a CPT file, you get a message that says file not found? And we are talking about two different computers, correct?

No. the CPTs are fine, as are the low-res JPGs. It's just the 300dpi JPEGs that are the problem. When I double-click, or right-click and try to Open, I get a message saying "file not found", but I can access them OK if I open them from within PhotoPaint. I am using two different computers (both XP), and two different builds of PhotoPaint (both X3).

Further clarification. You did save one the 300dpi jpg file in the .576 as CPT file, move it to the .739 machine and it will open by double clicking the file.

If so, export it as a JPG to a known location other than where you normally save. (Such as the Desktop) and then double click it and report the results.
