I want to upgrade my computer and really don't know what I need in a video card to improve CD X4 performance. I'll be popping in some more RAM (3 GB) and figure I have a pretty stock video card.
I have a Dell computer, Windows XP, and my current video card is Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 this:
TW212 Card, Graphics, 256, NVS290, ULGA8
My power supply is 375 watts.
Any suggestions on what I might want, to boost my graphics processing?
Oh, did I mention that I can't drop a bundle on this, maybe in the neighborhood of $100 or less?
Thanks.
The graphics card is not all there is to improving CD performance. You have identified more RAM which is always good. Your machine has to be able to perform fast calculations and so the CPU is also critical. Most any card will do 2D acceleration under windows XP to an acceptable standard including the yesterdays beauties that are now todays cheapies. Go for a bargain and don't waste your money too much. I fear you may be experiencing CD in as- good- as- it- gets mode for your particular system.

My desire for the graphics card was just to improve performance, not solve any problems. I did get a new graphics card and will put it in this weekend. I like the idea of boosting my power supply, too. This all makes a lot of sense.
Oh, I did add more RAM, too.
