i recently bought a new laptop and installed my good old friend Corel Graphics Suite X4, and i was sooooooooooooooooooooooooo slow, so i decided to upgrade to Corel Graphic Suite X5 to fit the problem, i thougth, but nothing.

Basically it takes a loooooooooong time to open a file, save it, copy, paste and delete any objects. So a 5 minute graphic, can take at least 45 miutes to do, which is francly ridiculous, frustrating, etc...

i played around with hte other software installed, thinking it might be my brand new stinking laptop, but no, they run super fast, as i expected, soooooo my conclusion is...IT'S THE FRIGGIN' COREL SOFTWARE!!!!!!!

BTW, don't take me wrong, i do love corel, i've used it since forever and wouldn't change it for anything, but right now i'm going crazy with it............PLEASE SOMEBODY HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELP!!!

(Somebody who knows, what he/she is talking about)

Hi,

I use both X4 and X5 on a Laptop with Windows 7 PRO 64 bit.
I havent had the same experience as you have. With either X4 and X5.
Regarding X4: Have you after installing X4 also installed the Service Pack 2 (SP2) ?

Have you checked if you have the minimum requirements needed on your new Laptop?

i did install the SP2 with the X4 version, and my new laptop does exceed all the minimum requirements, as i wrote all my other software (Microsoft office 2007, adobe acrobat, illustrator cs3, photoshop cs3) work, so far, super fast and without problems, even dvd's burn a lot faster than with my older PC, i even reinstalled and then repaired the corel graphics suite x5, run test of all kinds, antiviruses, scan disk, defragmented and so on.......thanks

Make sure your security software is set to ignore CDR files. Starting with X4, CDR files are nothing but a zip file in disguise. Some security software feels it needs to scan the files which slows them down drastically.

i already set my AV to ignore CDR files, and it improved a little bit, should i set it to ignore zip files too?

what about slow copy/paste/delete operations? they are really slow

Far as I know the exact cause of that has never been identified and it only happens to some users. What other software do you run?

I had a somewhat similar experience with Win 7 64 Bit & a clean install of X$ with SP2 all that changed after my graphic card suddenly crashed & I had to put in a new graphic card which is ironically far less in configuration to the one that crashed and not to mention now X4 as well as X5 are running at blazing speed without any hiccups almost at double the previous speed

So I request you to kindly get your graphic card checked it might be causing the problem

Fnarvel

ouch, that hurt....

Chris,

You don't want to have zip files ignored as they could potentially contain a threat.

I don't have any answer for the clipboard issue since it has never been a problem for me. Whatever is causing this problem is somewhat elusive. Some of us don't have the problem while others do. Somehow we need to figure out some common element to those having the problem so we can pass that info to Corel.

these are the specs of my computer, do you guys think it might have something to do with the problem?
2.5GHz VISION Technology Ultimate from AMD with AMD Turion II Ultra Dual-Core Mobile Processor M620

ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650 Graphics
i still have time to go, return it and pick an other one...
thanks guys for your help!!!

maybe if i reinstall or repair the installation, do you think it might help?

You can try holding down F8 when you start and see if rebuilding the workspace will help.

You can also try and set X5 to run in Vista SP2 compatibilty mode and see if that will help...someone else with Win 7 64 bit mentioned that it helped them.

Chris,

The differences I see between my configuration and yours are the processor supplier (I have an Intel Core i7) and video provider (I have an nVidia card). I also have more RAM though I seriously doubt that has anything to do with it since you have plenty.
