Quick Question: have any of you had any luck with using CorelDraw on an iMac? I just got one, and I'm a diehard CorelDraw user.

Obviously, I can't run it on my mac. But I did install Parallels Desktop5 and can run it on the virtual machine. The problem right now is that the screen size is so small. I can see it, but I'm not sure it will be the best option for working with CorelDraw on my mac...

Any other options? Suggestions? Thoughts. (I really don't want to have to switch to Adobe Graphic Suite.)

(Corel: don't keep fooling yourself into thinking that macs are becoming more popular. no one saw the iphone coming, but now that it has, macs are becoming more popular as well)

Why not use the Bootcamp option.

That's what I'm running and have no problems so far!

i had heard that parallels was faster and you don't have to reboot each time you switch from windows to mac.

i'll look at bootcamp. is the workspace full screen? or smaller?

Bootcamp lets you boot directly into Windows. So you can install any windows software and run it.

Its like using MAC Hardware and running windows. It will be exactly like running a PC.

where do i get bootcamp? do i have to purchase it or is it a free download from Apple. I can't find any info on it other than that it is included with certain Snow Leopard OS versions.

Can you open the workspace full screen? or is it a smaller window on your screen?

I'm using it on an iMac using VISTA basic home edition everyday.
Works great... as good or better than my native Windows XP machine.
It's full screen just like on a native Windows machine.

BCamp is included in your iMac OS.
You install Windows and hold the alt key down when booting.
Then you install CD (including SP 1) and you're in business.

meant to update back on here that I finally got the full-screen to show/work. Now that it does, i LOVE parallels! It works fabulously and smoothly.

Literally like running two computers except you can move things back and forth (you don't have to log in and out either). I'm really pleased with it and would recommend it to anyone who loves corelDraw but wants to use a mac.

I have been using parallels with X3 for about a year now and it my MAC runs it better than windows ever did! The only problem I have is that I cant print from Parallels. It won't find our network printer! Grrr...so we all just export to PDF and then open it on the mac side and print. Its a pain.

ANY SUGGESTIONS ANYONE?

I am running CorelDraw X4 on a brand new Mac Pro and it is incredibly slow. Every command I do takes at least a few seconds before it actually responds and projects that should take 5 minutes turn into 30 minutes!

Please let me know if anyone has any advice on how to make Corel work better in Parallels or ideas why it might be running so slowly.

MacUser222:

I had the same problem, but it was solved after installing more RAM on the mac. I am working seamlessly with 8GB. Bear in mind that you are now running the MacOS AND Windows, so that requires more resources from your machine.

Thank You! I went into the memory settings in Corel and found that it was only using 25% of the maximum memory allotted - I changed it to 50% and it's running much better.

I'm happy you think that setting helped, but it didn't do a darned thing. It is pure coincidence things seem faster. The article below explains why it doesn't do anything. It was such a useless setting, it was finally removed from CorelDRAW X5.

Foster,

He is probably referring to changing RAM allocation of windows environment and not Corel. DRAW X5 doesn't have that option anymore and hence there's no way he can set RAM in Corel, can he?

I guess there must be some settings in Mac as to what amount of RAM to use when switching to Windows.

CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X5
Draw better, faster!
