Hello to everyone,

Since some time now, I have something strange going on.

I have both "CorelDraw 7 Select Edition" and "CGSX4" installed next to one another (both legal versions, for the record). For no particular reason I use PhotoPAINT 7 more than PhotoPAINT X4. I use it for simple photo editing; nothing complicated or 'professional'.
Having both version next to each other on my Windows XP Home, SP3, install causes no problems at all. However, since a few weeks I am (very often) unable to save a new file made from a screencapture. When I try to "Save as", literally nothing happens. Same when I try to "Save".

I have one such screencapture open right now and have uploaded it here:

http://i27.tinypic.com/rh994k.jpg

The cause, I believe, is the "name" of any such new file. The link clearly shows as name

ìZ:Nieuw-5.cpt

Not the two "weird" letters/symbols at the front, which appear automatically.

(Note: I have the Dutch version, hence the word "Nieuw", "New", in the file name. And this was the 5th picture).

So, the question is: Why does PhotoPAINT give such a name to new screencaptures "all of a sudden"? This does not happen in Photo-Paint X4.
I have no other 'graphics' programs installed (beside OpenOffice 3.2 "Draw" which I never use), that might interfere with PhotoPAINT 7.
I did install programs after installing "CorelDRAW 7SE" many many months ago, but I can not say after installing which program PhotoPAINT 7 started doing this.

Does anyone know a cause for this problem?
Does anyone know how I can solve this?

With me also having CGSX4, one could say this is no big matter, but I still want to put it forward, since I use PhotoPAINT 7 more than X4.

All thoughts, ideas and answers are higly appreciated.

Install service pack 2, SP2; for CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X4, (Photo-Paint).
Go completly over to only use Photo-Paint X4.

Why, well it might not be the answer you were looking for, but as an old user of Select Edition 7 myself, dont use it for sentimental reasons. So much new things have happened since 7.0 its well worth the transition. You have to acknowledge that your image editing work will increase in professional output. You will get way better results.

Nieuw - New in english, is the name given to all new images in Photo-Paint X4.

Stefan Lindblad,

I suppose you are right... Come to think of it, Photopaint 7 sometimes "hangs" when opening a photograph (jpg), and then I have to use Taskmanager to kill it. It does not happen in "X4".

I installed the SP long ago (and also registered and got that "freebie" that one gets Smile

I will follow your advice and switch to "X4". It is only a matter of habit, really. I just "mess around" with photographs, and 'version 7' was and is good enough for that (so, 'version  14' will be good enough too).
I am not photographer or anything (though I have a "Sony alpha 100", and a Samsung "G400" cellphone that also makes surprisingly very good photographs).

-oo-

I must say I was really very pleased to see that I found my way around in "X4" immediately and that the Corel people had not completely changed the menus.

PhotoPAINT 7 can not save to PNG, while "X4" can, which comes in handy.

There are (probably) lots of options that I barely, or even never, have used. CorelDRAW itself I have used less that...5 times maybe. I wouldn't want to trade CorelDRAW (7, or 14) for any other program (including the "world famous" Photoshop).

*Switching to "X4"*

Thank you very much for the reply, Stefan Lindblad.

Photo-Paint X4 is a great program you can do a lot of great things with. Version 7 was my first version, later whent over to version 10 and on and on later came to X4 and now X5. I use it daily in all my work as an illustrator to draw and paint digitally. And work with my photos as well. Whether we use Photo-Paint or Photoshop we will never use every tool inside either program, simply because we all work differently. No one have needs for every tool. But we learn new tools all the time, and new ways of using them. Its good you dont feel you have an inferior program, you dont. Yes there are a great deal of great features in Photoshop. It would be silly not to acknowledge its plus points, but Photo-paint has its own plus points and I never feel inferior for all my work.

Here is me infront of my 3,5x3 meter illustration I made entirely using Photo-Paint X4 and my Wacom tablet.

Yes its nice to be able to get going right away. I saw and old original first version of CorelDRAW 2.0, seen in this post, and it looks very similar to how its today, which is nice. http://coreldraw.com/forums/p/9819/39331.aspx#39331
