    NNTP & Mozilla Thunderbird

Anyone having issues? I am subsdcribed on my vista laptop yet cannot subscribe at work XP Pro.

I was able to set up CorelDRAW X3 ng without issues

    Re: NNTP & Mozilla Thunderbird

Sometime in the last day or so Thunderbird has decided "access denied" for even browsing. Worked fine for browsing these NGs for a few days (I never used Tbird (NNTP) for posting to these forums, I was using it for browsing since I cannot stand the forum access by Internet; just dropped by to see if anyone else was having NNTP problems.

I post very little in coreldraw.com anyway as I really, really prefer the newsgroups on cnews.corel.ca and its reliable NNTP access.

    Hello,

We're still making some tweaks to the NNTP access for CorelDRAW.com based on the feedback from everyone. I think most of the problems have been solved now and I know other members use Thunderbird as their NNTP client. Make sure to use "username@coreldraw" to log-in. Also make sure to use Unicode (UTF-8) character encoding if you don't want to get strange characters. The NNTP information page has also been updated (yes, I know, the screenshots are for Outlook, but these should still give you an indication to get Thunderbird working.

Let me know if you have any other problem and I'll be happy to look into it.

    Re: NNTP & Mozilla Thunderbird

Nope. Everything now gives access denied.

As I mentioned, it was working for a couple of days through NNTP, then, with no changes, went to "Access Denied". I just set everything up from scratch again two different ways (the "raw" way and the "assisted way" through the link. One told me how many messages awaited and then went immediately to "Access Denied."

Really strange... I just restarted the server just in case... can you
let me know if it is working for you now? If not, I'll be digging into
it to find the reason why.

It seems to be working fine from here using the Mozilla Suite newsreader.

I am writing this post using Thunderbird 2.0.0 and everything seems to
work for me. Here are a few things for you to check. Click on the top
folder (I named mine "CorelDRAW.com" and select "View settings for this
    account".

On the "Server Settings" option, make sure you have checked "Always
request authentication when connecting to this server". This will force
Tunderbird to ask you for your username and password to log into
CorelDRAW.com. Reading the forums is public, posting in forums requires
    a password.

One the same screen, make sure that you set the Default Character
Encoding as "Unicode (UTF-8)". If you do this before you subscribe to
forums, it should apply it to all the forums you are adding later...
else you migh need to change this in the properties for each forum
    you've already subscribed.

Hope this helps. If you still have problems, can you please confirm what
version of Thunderbird and what Operating System you are using so that I
    can investigate this further.

    Re: NNTP & Mozilla Thunderbird

Magically worked for browsing again this morning, using same settings as
I had before. (no authentication--I had not yet set it up for posting
but as I mentioned browsing worked fine for a couple of days and then by
magic decided it was "access denied."

I have now set it up for posting (authentication required) and, if this
posts, is obviously working for posting.

    Re: NNTP & Mozilla Thunderbird

well if this goes through I thank you very much. I believe using this
forum through NNTP will better fit my needs.

    Re: NNTP & Mozilla Thunderbird

Two or three days ago NNTP completely lost me again, out of the blue.

Still can't get in through NNTP despite having removed and recreated the "account." (several times).

With or without authentication it says "connection refused."

    Re: NNTP & Mozilla Thunderbird

I'm having a similar problem, G. but I was putting it down to trying to get my accounts going on a brand new Vista machine. Can't connect to the newsgroup through Windows Mail or SeaMonkey news readers.

ps. I'll take any hints I can get about Vista!
