    Ellipse Tool

    Hello,

When using Corel 12 what is the best way to shape text at the bottom after having it arched at the top and you want it to match at the bottom.

    Thank you

    Karyn

    Hey Karyn,

Once you've typed your text and selected "fit text to path" from the text menu and pointed to the path that you want it to follow, several options will appear in the menu at the top of your screen.  If you mess around with those, I'm sure you will find the command that will make things look the way you would like them.

Karyn, I'm assuming you clicked the "place on other side" icon, as Rob described.

If you're talking about the text getting smooshed together (technical term), you can ctrl click the text (while still attached to the path) and then select your Shape tool.

Dragging that right arrow to the right should help the kerning for you and help it match the top text.

Just so you know, that Fit Text to Path process was tremendously improved in X3.  It's much more interactive. You can even vertically stretch the text without distortion..............very, very cool.

I thought it would have been that easy, but I get an error message that when I click on the ellipse to attach the next word that its invalid.

Karyn, instead of selecting that 2nd string of text and then selecting Fit Text to Path............try it this way.

    [1] Select your path

[2] Shift select your 2nd string of text

[3] Then go to Text, Fit Text to Path

Your 2 strings of text will now be right on top of each other.

Just drag that second string around to the bottom with that little red diamond.

When it's on the bottom where you want it, then go ahead and click the place on other side icon. Select your vertical placement from the property bar.............etc. etc. etc.

Don't forget, you'll also probably need to adjust kerning, like I described to you in the previous message.

This is the way I always do fit text to path. A lot less troublesome.

If you practice a little, after a couple of times you'll be able to do it with your eyes closed! LOL LOL
