Cloning question - very confused & frustrated

I'm having a difficult time with the cloning function.....I open up the TOUCH UP flyout and click on the CLONE tool - but when I set the source point for the clone and drag the clone brush, nothing happens.  Am I completely missing something?

     Thanks in advance!

Do you have any pixels in the object on which you set your source? If not, that is your problem. The Clone Tool requires pixels to work from so you must set the source on an object with something more than nothing. You can clone to an empty object.

Also, check and make certain your opacity isn't set to zero.

Not sure what you mean by this?....

I'm trying to touch up a photo - eliminating some glare, etc.  I right-click to set the source point and then drag the second circle, but nothing happens.  I don't need two images up, do I?  I've been using Corel Draw X3 for over a year now, and this is the first time I've used the Photo editor.  I've never felt so dumb before?  I know I'm just missing something really obvious probably....

The opacity is a control on your Tool Bar next to Size, Feather, etc.

Another thing you want to make certain of is that you don't have a mask applied and that you are painting outside the mask. Hit CTRL R to remove any masks which might be active.

well, you don't just "drag" it. You have to right-click to select your
source point, then you move the mouse to where you want to start cloning and
left-click to start the cloning of the source-point to your new place, if
    you get what I mean.

From L to R, there's SHAPE, SIZE, then a drop down menu box featuring items like Normal, Add, Subtract, Difference, Mulitply, etc.  Then TRANSPARENCY, ANTI ALIASING, FEATHER,  and ENABLE ORBITS.

There's no masks applied - but for good measure, I hit CTRL R.

Does it matter what type of file I'm using? (jpeg, tiff, etc)

To a certain extent, yes and no. You should never edit a JPG. It is a lossy
format and will technically lose data every time you save that image. TIF is
non-lossy and would work OK, but it doesn't support any layers/objects.

Instead of us having to guess, why not tell us exactly what type of file
you're using - file format, color model, bit-depth (i.e., is it an RGB,
    24-bit TIF?)

It says 24-Bit RGB.  I drug it over from my Kodak Software....

The touch up brush tool is working fine for me, that's why I'm confused as to why the cloning won't work.

Fletch, it's like pulling teeth with you at times :) You still didn't say
    what FILE FORMAT you're using.

Re: Cloning question - very confused & frustrated

Just to take you through it step by step:

    - open the image

    - make sure that the "Object Manager" docker is open (helps you see what object/lens/layer you are working on - should say "background" just now)

    - Select the clone tool

    - As a test, r-tap the mouse on a busy part of the image, move the mouse to a bland area of the image, hold the L mouse button down and scribble. You should see something happening. Let go of the L mouse button and "undo".

... If you see no change, then something weird is happening:

    • Check the size of the tool - big image, pixel sized pen: can't see anything.
    • Check the 'clone mode' - if it's on 'impressionist' or  ' pointism' then the pen settings may make the 'ink' of the clone miles away from the clicked area
    • Check the merge mode - paint drop-downshould say "normal" (unless you are doing something specific)
    • Check the transparency value (wineglass) - if it's 100% then you can see through it: can't see anything.
    • Check the feather value - huge feather value, meduim transparency and small pen can be almost neglagble changess
    • Check "Lock Object Transparency" at the bottom of the object manage - if locked and you're trying to close outwith the object's boundaries, you won't see anything.
    • Check you don't have 'orbits' on - the settings can put 'ink' in strange places or even not at all.
    • Loads of settings under the "Brush settings" docker you can play with, but I'm not sure if they apply to the clone brush.

Ok, I'm starting to feel REALLY stupid - I went through the whole checklist and STILL nothing.....I'm about ready to throw in the towel on this.  I appreciate everyone's help, but I'm not getting any scribble marks even......[:'(]

Can you paint on the image with a normal paintbrush and add lines/shapes?

Can you apply some of the effects to see if they work?
