When Saving A File & That File Name Already Exist, I Do Not Get A Warning

When I try to save a file and the file already exist, I do not get the warning message.  It just automatically overwrites it.  Can anyone help me with this.

Re: When Saving A File, no Warning that File Already Exist

    Hi Jerkydawg,

"File/ Save" works the same for me in Corel as it does in other graphic progams.  When working on an illustration it just automatically overwrites the existing file.  It will (thankfully) create a backup of the earlier version in case one didn't really want to overwrite the older one.  I will occasionally, inadvertently click "save" instead of "save as" by mistake.  When I do this, I just open the Backup file and save it as the original.

    Does this answer your question?

Thank you!  Kind of....My problem is....let me give you an example.  I save my jobs as May 19 JOHN SMITH.  If I have another job for the same customer, I will save it as May 19 JOHN SMITH 1, and JOHN SMITH 2.  In Vista, it is hard to see the end of the file name and I am saving maybe JOHN SMITH 1 again and all of a sudden, it is no longer telling me that the file name already exist, just overwriting the file automatically.  It has been working just fine until this past weekend.  I have tried to F8 and reset defaults but that did not work.  It is just causing me overwrite on jobs that I need.

    Thank you!

    Hey Jerkydawg,

Sorry, I'm still using XP SP3 and I do not have that sort of issue (If I'm understanding you correctly).  I'm wondering if it might not be a "Vista" problem and not Corel's.

Thanks again.  I tried saving to an existing file in a MS Word Doc. and I get the correct Message.....THE FILE ALREADY EXIST.  So, I am thinking that it is not a windows issue.  I feel confident that it is a "Save" setting that has gotten switched, just can't find it.

it's a corel thing AFAIK.  just be real careful.  as a side note, I do receive a warning when using the Export feature (instead of saving).

This is not normal. If I try to save with the same same, I receive the warning for replace, working with Windows Vista and X4

I work with Corel X4 and vista x64 and I don't get that problem.  I get asked to overwrite the file.  Have you tried to do a Corel repair?  Maybe something did not install correctly?  I checked in the Corel Warnings list, unfortunately, that is not one of the warnings listed that could be unchecked.
