Desperate for help with WMF/EMF export changing colours from CMYK to RGB...

Hi, I posted this earlier and received a kind response from David Milisock, advising me to select RGB (instead of CMYK) under the Color Management dialog. This, along with plenty of other fiddling within the Color Management dialog, proved unsuccessful in solving my problem.

My problem is that when I export images to WMF, it converts my CMYK (and Pantone) colours to RGB. The reverse is also true; WMF files I know to be correct convert to RGB when I import them. I've been using this format for years for various purposes so I am quite reliant on it. I need the correct colour information preserved; how do I control the import/export filter for WMF? Or whatever it is I need to do?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions you can offer.

    Kris,

There is a very simple answer for you. The WMF file format ONLY supports RGB
colors. This is not a CorelDRAW issue, it is a poor file format created by
Microsoft. The EMF format is newer and does support CMYK colors. But I don't
    think it supports spot colors.

Well your best bet to get the kind of conversions that will look good ( IE look like your CMYK) is to set the main color management dialog to RGB, activate the arrow from the internal RGB to the monitor, set the internal RGB to sRGB and then manually convert all objects and images to RGB.  Then when you save as WMF the content of the file will have already been converted to RGB and will not incur a color shift.

BTW here is a link to my Color Management Book, it has the information that will resolve all these issues for you.  Your basically using a WEB presentation work flow and the process is clearly described.  BTW the Corel default color management settings are just awful for what you're doing.

Thank you all for your help! I realize that the reason I overlooked (or forgot!) the fact that WMF's native format is RGB is because so too is the colour model used by several MS Office products, where these WMFs end up; what drew it to my attention was a client running it off on a laser printer, until then it went unnoticed! Setting it up with RGB values in the first place is an excellent suggestion, thank you. BTW, David, I actually have my colour management settings optimized for professional output. :)

If it's the Corel setting for professional output good luck.  I sincerely hope Corel re-thinks Color Management for the next release.

I was in Newton, a town outside Boston last Tuesday testing a Mimaki flatbed and in Chicago last Thursday testing the Oce Arizona 250 flatbed for a client who is considering an expansion of their ink jet output.  I (of course) took a massively difficult native color Corel published PDF file with mesh fills, very complex vectors, transparency, RGB, CMYK, gradients designed to band and black and white images.  The results were awesome and the technicians didn't believe it was a Corel file until I opened the CDR file and showed them.  Corel can do as well as anything else it's just understanding the settings and building the file correctly.

Truth be known, I have put away my new system until some of the bugs I'm encountering get ironed out, so I'm back to XP, with Corel v12 and MS Office 2003 loaded on it. Among other things, I was particularly unimpressed with how a Powerpoint file created in 2007 turned slide master titles into slide masters and superimposed one over the other when opened in 2003, but that vent is outside the scope of this forum... ;-)
