Most current designs are based on triangular construction that do not separate the air flow on both sides of the bike. This causes vortexes that increase drag. This monocoque frame guides and separates the airflow around the bike and therefore reduces drag.

Basic car design

CorelDRAW / PhotoPaint design. The shadow on the side of the car was created in PhotoPaint; just paint a black blob (with polygon shape) that you can correct with the (feathered) brush and eraser, use object feathering to remove hard edges and tinker with transparency in the Object Control Panel to make it realistic. The .cdr and .cpt files can be downloaded from the link below (compressed into a .rar-file), so you can get an idea how the image was made and tinker with it.

Vector made in CorelDRAW, then multiple effects in multiple layers in Corel PhotoPaint. For furr suggestion: Add Noise applied twice; first time black (spike setting) randomized, then white (lighter setting, also spike) with different randomize setting. Finally Texture (Plastic) Effect with colored light.

Created a vector drawing mostly in grey hues (as can be seen in the insert at the bottom left), copied separate objects to PhotoPaint and processed them there one by one, using Texture - Plastic, then adjusting tone curve and duplicating layers with various filters. The Texture Effect (Plastic in particular) of PhotoPaint is fabulous; it allows multiple instants with different settings applied to the same object, which results in realistic renderings. The Effect allows to give objects color, shades and highlights. Hues were also adjusted to create a balanced color profile.

CorelDRAW / PhotoPaint. Initial drawing made in DRAW, using blends. Copied and pasted objects into Paint, then used multiple texture/plastic effects with different lighting angles and colors. Enhanced accents with tone curves. Used multiple layers with different effects and transparency levels to establish desired effect. Not as realistic as in 3D as in http://www.flickr.com/photos/rage-of-reason/5299221543/lightbox/ but good enough for 2D.
