Sample of shading techniques available by splitting a sample curved letter like "S". Avant Garde, Swiss, Arial, work well to do this with. But you have to covert to shapes and it works best to reduce nodes to a bare minimum. Requires breaking the curve apart and reassembling, reversing the path and a one step blend to get the center line. Once that is achieved, you can make your own chiseled lettering. There is an example of meshing within a PowerClip as well as exported gradient and reimported and warped with the envelope tool.
