Go Back to the Future With Revert BRK Free Fonts

Not too long ago I re-watched the three movies in the Back to the Future series. For those not familiar, the characters would go back in time to change the outcome of some event that would modify what happened in the current and future times. What does that have to do with today's font? It was the best story I could find to go with a font family with the name of Revert BRK.

Post a message or a graphics on the Graphics Unleashed Facebook page and tell us what you would like to go back in time and change. Admittedly, I can think of many, but I'm not sure how many I truly want to change. Even things that didn't go well in the past have shaped me into the person I am. CorelDRAW Unleashed Bonus Content Pack 2 Now Available

You'll find five clipart collections from Clipart Unleashed with more than 1000 pieces of vector clipart in CorelDRAW format. Add in 103 fonts from the Fonts Unleashed collection. Throw in 119 metal seamless textures from the Textures Unleashed collection. Lastly there are 500 stripes from the Stripes Unleashed collection.

Some of My Favorite Fonts From the Archives

It just wouldn't be a Friday without a dreaded technical glitch. That certainly isn't the way I wanted to go into a holiday weekend, but I'll try to make the best of it. Due to the glitch, I am unable to provide a new font to you today so I am going to dig back into the archives and remind you about some of my favorite fonts.

We'll start with two font families in OpenType format, complete with some extra glyphs. The Lobster Fonts have some really cool extra glyphs in them and I've yet them quite a bit. A more traditional family of serif fonts is the Crimson fonts. They too are in OpenType format and have some of the cool extra glyphs.

For those looking for a big family of fonts, the Kubrick fonts may be right up your alley. In total it contains 11 faces. Another larger family is the Ensign Flandry fonts and I was particular happy about the story I shared about these fonts. To finish off my stroll through the archives, check out the Sinister Visions fonts containing four fonts perfect for Halloween.

With the fonts covered, you should have a nice mix of body fonts, headline fonts and some others that are just plain fun. Enjoy!

Updated List of Fonts Included With CorelDRAW X6

In the past few days I've been doing a lot of research on the new OpenType features included in CorelDRAW X6. With these features, you can substitute alternate characters for selected text as shown at right and much more. In order to show off each of the features, it is important to find fonts that include the necessary extra characters.

I first told you about the list of fonts included with CorelDRAW X6 back in May. You may want to re-read that post for more information. What I didn't realize at the time is that the tool I used to make the list didn't include any "OTF" files in the list. Considering those are the fonts that include larger character sets that show off the new features, it was a bad omission. I have since updated the list to include the 40 included fonts in OpenType format and they are listed first. For those who really want to see the new features in action, you'll want to install the American Captain and the Zapfino fonts.

Now it is time for me to dig in and do some more research so I can have all of this stuff explained in detail in my CorelDRAW X6 Unleashed book.

Summit and Summit Shadow Free Fonts

I hope you all reach the summit in all of your endeavors! Maybe that summit is literally the top of a mountain or maybe it is a personal or professional achievement. Go ahead and use the Summit fonts to memorialize that achievement. You might also find them quite useful for designs dealing with school athletics.

FontTesterPlus 1.1 Gives Details on Installed Fonts

Today is the day when many people in North America celebrate Mexico's victory in the Battle of Puebla. Most simply call it Cinco de Mayo though it is officially El Dia de la Batalla de Puebla. This year it also coincides the the oldest sporting event in the US. That's right, the running of the Kentucky Derby. So grab a margarita, watch the ponies and let's talk about some cool software!

As I've mentioned in previous posts, one of the biggest changes in CorelDRAW X6 is the support of OpenType fonts including all of the cool extra characters they can contain. In order to fully develop features like this, software companies often have to create software they use internally to test something. In this case, FontTesterPlus was created as a way to see all kinds of details about the fonts installed on your system. It can be downloaded for free from Claude's gallery (Claude is one of the developers for Corel). You will find multiple versions in there so make sure to download the newest version.

Above you will see a marked up screenshot of this cool utility. One note from Claude is that the current version does not work at all on Windows XP. It is also delivered as is and admittedly it is a very rough utility. It was developed by developers for developers and the user interface leaves a lot to be desired. You may also find it to be buggy and flaky. Even so, you may find it really interesting to select one of your installed fonts and see all the details about the font. Fontaholics can probably spend a lot of time just exploring the details of their fonts.

Kontrapunkt Fonts

Just hearing the name of today's font makes me think of punk rock. I'm sure part of that is because it has punk in the name. Maybe you'll want to put on your favorite Ramones song as you design with the Kontrapunkt fonts to get you in that punk mood.

WC Wunderbach Fonts

I had someone approach me last week looking for artwork geared towards the military market. One thing that always says military to me is a stencil-type font. That led me to WC Wunderbach in its six crazy variants. Note that some of these variants are extremely complex and may be slow to render. We've also supplied these fonts in both TrueType and OpenType formats.

Tangle Font

Last week I got the chance to dip my toe in the Pacific. If only it were that simple. Sure the water was cold, but I also got tangled in some seaweed and then discovered a bunch of tar on the bottom of my foot. In honor of this, our font this week is Tangle. There is only one font in the family and it only contains lowercase letters. Even with this very limited character set, the font is incredibly complex and should be used with caution because it can take longer than normal to render on screen due to the complexity.

Spicy Rice Font

I love rice and I love spicy food. So you can probably guess that some of my favorite rice dishes are spicy. It probably isn't the healthiest diet, but I still love it. Please don't tell my doctor! Anyways, I thought I would share a spicy font with you today by the name of Spicy Rice. There is only one font in this OpenType family, but it is a very nice one and it does include some ligatures that work with the new OpenType features in CorelDRAW X6.
